Of course so it fits the pan
One day a little girl was watching her mom make a roast beef. She cut off the ends, wrapped it in string, seasoned it and set it in the roasting pan.
The little girl asked her mom why she cut off the ends of the roast. Mom replied, after some thought, that it was the way that her mother had done it.
That night grandma came to dinner and the little girl and her mom went to her and asked why she had cut the end off of the roast before cooking. After some thought grandma replied, that was the way her mother had done it.
Now great grandmother was quite old and in a nursing home. But the little girl went with her mom and grandma to see her and again asked the question.
Grandma looked at them a bit annoyed and said, "So it would fit in the pan, of course."
Layla, do you date your freezer food?
We have made some changes in how we get our food and use our food.
first involves cost. We are going to find ways to lower the bill without lowering food quality.
second our freezer is too full. We are gonna try too use that stuff up before adding more to the top and forgetting what is at the bottom.
third we are gonna make something "different" once a week. It will not be exotic or weird just different to our norm.
Those are our changes. I look forward to any ideas you have on how to make these better/easier.
I am back. I (my daughter and I) have been creating my new internet profile for the last couple of weeks. It turned out to be a very complicated process.
For more online security, I have all new emails, new more secure password and even new website questions with answers unrelated to the question so no personal information can be gleaned from there.
This doesn't affect anything here. we can get back to what ever you feel like sharing.
LOVE your Oatmeal Cranberry Cookies, Julia! Mine are very similar. GREAT idea to pre-scoop the batter and freeze it!
I'm a vegetarian, but I used to cook meat for my family. I loved having a pork roast because it was great for so many leftover-based dishes. Like Julia, I'd make tamales. Or I'd shred the pork, add barbecue sauce, and make barbecue sandwiches with homemade coleslaw. I'd often make a pork stir fry, lo-mein, or fried rice. Sometimes I'd even make pork bao buns. Another favorite was a Cuban "Medianoche" sandwich--thin slices of roast pork layered with Swiss cheese, ham, pickles, and mustard on a buttered (sweet egg bread--almost like challah) sandwich bun, pressed in a panini maker.
OOHH! Even after living 19 years in south Texas, I have never made tamales. That could be fun to try.
I usually season ( we like spicy ) leftover pork ( shredded) then freeze to make tamales at a later date.
What to do with leftover roast?
I made a pork (we don't eat beef) roast and have a lot left over. I usually make a salad type thing with chopped roast, onions, celery and mustard/mayonnaise. I also could cut it up and make a soup or something. Basically I am uninspired....need ideas.
