Good Dick: When a lonely young girl named Anna walks into her local independent video store in search of an erotic film, the clerk behind the counter vows to transcend her emotional barriers and win her heart in this quirky relationship comedy written, directed by, and starring Marianna Palka. Though the lovelorn clerk in question (Jason Ritter) is a bit of a creep and perhaps even a potential stalker, the contentious relationship forged between the pair as he repeatedly seeks Anna's affections (and is continually shot down) eventually leads to an unusual, yet wholly unavoidable, confrontation that offers offbeat insight into the state of modern romance.

Earth: This beautiful Disney family-friendly nature documentary is in the spirit of and uses a lot of footage from the BBC/Discovery TV series Planet Earth. Narrated by James Earl Jones, the movie mainly follows three families: polar bears, elephants and humpback whales. The film shows the animal families struggling to survive because the planet is rapidly changing. Along the way, the documentary sometimes presents other animals, such as caribou, baboons and different kinds of birds, including the comical dance of the bird of paradise. The film is discreet about death.

Sin Nombre: Winner of awards for direction and cinematography at Sundance, this visceral Spanish-language melodrama is about Latino gangs and illegal immigrants. Casper, a member of a vicious gang in the south of Mexico, is about 18 when he meets Sayra, a Honduran teenager passing through his gang's territory as she tries to make her way north to illegally enter the US. The pair becomes a couple on the run, and the tale ends with an act of redemption. The film indelibly etches in viewers' minds the image of desperate people riding through Mexico atop freight trains.

Recommendation for the week:
State of Play: A film that Roger Ebert calls "a smart, ingenious thriller," State of Play's tale of murder, corruption, and manipulation will have you holding your breath until the final suspenseful moment. The starstudded cast is led by Academy Award® winner Russell Crowe (Gladiator, American Gangster), with Ben Affleck (Good Will Hunting), Rachel McAdams (The Notebook), Helen Mirren (The Queen), Jason Bateman (Juno), and Robin Wright-Penn (Forrest Gump). From director Kevin Macdonald (The Last King of Scotland. This movie is powerful, intelligent, and gripping. It will hold your attention from begining to end.
