Lol.....   I sympathize with your effort to stop the nastyness, Vernon, but It probably won'twork.

Sorry, Vern - But it's hard to watch a legislature and an opposing party that would rather wreck the country they claim to love, than give one inch of political ground to Obama.

I always said that I'd be amazed if he accomplished even half of what he set out to do, considering the scope of the national mess and the intransigence of the conservatives that got us into it, but even I wasn't expecting this level of pure, politically-motivated hatred, greed, selfishness and utter disdain for what's best for the country.

It's staggeringly depressing. I've been watching politics fairly closely for over forty years now, and I've never, ever sexperienced a more stubborn, myopic, obstructionist bunch than the current republican leadership and the tea party dingbats.

That's what happens, I guess, when you're not only so out of touch with reality (and common decency) that you actually think that you can stand up in public and claim that your political stances come directly from heaven, and not from cynical political think tanks, draconian lobbyists and Wall Street robber barons - Not only that, but that a sizable percentage of the Greatest Country On Earth have decided that they can accept and endorse that kind of rejection of the real world, and eyes-closed-&-fingers-in-the-ears, obstinate childishness is a rational, intelligent and morally correct pathway for the entire country to take.

Check Restoring Political Civility—a program of the Civil Conversations Project.

It won't hurt anyone to check it out.

Pacis - An evangelistic christian WOULD see their "enemies" as parts of a conspiracy whose only motivation is to swell their own numbers.

After all, that's how most religions operate, ain't it ? Never stop increasing the membership. "We're right because there's MORE of us".

"Strength through numbers" is their motto - Because, even with all the big talk of moral superiority and being guided by divine providence, there's always that furtive awareness that the whole self-assurance and confident-faith-in-an-omnipotent-protector-looking-out-for-OUR-side thing doesn't really hold up all that well, not when things get real.

(That's when the other trope always comes in - The "We're Being Persecuted!" singalong. "Waa-Waa. Poor, Discriminated Us. How DARE You Talk To Us The Same Way We Talked To You. Oh, WOE! (Boy, I hope Jesus buys this "persecution" act of ours.)")

Nope - Gotta have some back-up, for when somebody calls you on your bullshit. So, naturally, in cases of group-think like religion or a political party, they think that everybody else is doing things for the same reason that they are - And it unnerves them to hear somebody from the other side, who can see through the fantasy, who isn't a member of the herd.

Why no, Larry - I wouldn't expect ANYTHING to penetrate that protective bubble of smug arrogance, lies, false humility and self-admiration you've built around yourself.

Is you, running down my religion supposed to make me feel bad or something, Snagg?

Go back and watch the Government gone wild video again.   Watch and try for retention (happy?).   At the 0:50 mark, he claims a 15% growth in the number of Federal employees over the last 10 years.   He’s actually soft pedaling the amount of growth, as shown by the chart by The Office of Personnel Management which pegs it at 18% during a nine year period.   You seem to be conveniently ignoring the link I posted showing you this, so, I’ll print the applicable portion out here:

“Here is the number of federal employees by decade (in millions and excluding U.S. Postal workers), as listed by the Office of Personnel Management:

1940 0.70
1950 1.44
1960 1.81
1970 2.20
1980 2.16
1990 2.25
2000 1.78
2009 2.10”

Simple arithmetic shows the last 9 year period at %18.

Now shake yourself awake again and pay attention starting at the 2:30 mark, where he begins talking about employees at all levels of government.  I know, it’s hard, but if you persevere, you will be rewarded with knowledge.

Did you catch the part where 16% of the voting population works for government?  (on whatever level)  Are you going to make the silly charge that more people than that, work in the – what did you call it- the “Military industry”?    Gosh now what does that remind me of – Oh, yeah – “The Military Industrial Complex” what a coincidence, it’s just like talking with a Vietnam era draft dodger.

Speaking of the ‘60’s that must be where you are living mentally, if you think that Government employees  have the lowest paying jobs in the nation.  That movie ended decades ago.

Then you really lose it when you say that I’m talking about “numbers rather than percentages, which are what really counts”.    Percentages are exactly what I’m talking about.

But you go right ahead, put some flowers in your hair and drift back to your glory days.

Larry, Larry, Larry - Only Steve Macon has run away from more of my questions than you have.

That's why I'm "running on". I HAVE cornered you, more than once. That you choose to pretend that I haven't is just more of the willful ignorance, blustering ego and self-deception that characterizes people who believe that a magical man in the sky is always by their side and whispering in their ears that they're always Right and Good and (*snicker*) .."Smart".

Comment by Lawrence Bates on August 19, 2011 at 11:17pm

No, pac, it’s you who are missing the point.  That point is, the Government on all levels, and their rabid need to hold what they have and gain more in the process,  IS the biggest special interest.

I reproduced this statement from several posts ago, so that you can get caught up on what I'm discussing.   Try to keep up, Pac.   Read it slow for retension and then argue with what I really say.

If you ever get lucky enough to corner me, Snagg, then you'll have something to run on about, until then, I just ignore personal insults from those who don't know better.
