I think we have all heard of these people who want to return to the days of our forefathers and restore the constitution. I wasn't quite aware, however, that they also think the amendments beyond the bill of rights:1-10, as not being necessary or all that important. I had a very brief exchange with someone of that opinion.

Now saying to a Black/ African American person that the 13th, 14th and 15th Amendments are extraneous is either just plain insensitive, stupid or racist, but I am pretty certain that at least one women in this group would be a little bothered if the 19th amendment disappeared.

So, here goes, WTF is wrong with these people? Do they honestly believe that is was just fluff to abolish slavery =13th, To grant anyone born in this country equal citizenship despite race creed or color. Oh and also to prohibit anyone who has been a traitor to this country to hold political office. =14th, what about ensuring every citizen:(male) the right to vote regardless of race creed or color =15th. or finally letting us chicks vote =19th

It's not just that they want to go back to the roots of the constitution.

Listen carefully and you will realize that they want to go back to before the Age of Enlightenment.

I've also noticed that most Conservatives are fiercely "Independent", while most Liberals favor "Interdependence". Being a Liberal--but also being a member of a multidisciplinary engineering team that works on large scale international projects--I've seen that "interdependence" really IS the way to go...

So many of these people have abosolutely no idea what they are advocating. They will say they want to go back to the original constitution but if you press them on specifics like the 13th or 19th or even the 27th amendments they will say oh "I did not mean that one". Also when they read the constitution, if they ever have, they do not realize that it was written for a small mostly rural country of about 4 million. We are now 75 times that and a much more complicated country. Therefore our government must also be larger and more complicated.

I hear you, it took me a day to calm the hell down. And Pacis Dream and Pickleallen, you are right that these people apparently really have no knowledge of what they are talking about. Just talking out the side of their heads. I have tried to have conversations we them and remind them that the constitution was not written for the likes of them either. Unless, you had money and property you had very little if any pull or rights.

But, some white folks don't get that their ancestors were really a notch above a slave.
