A 2,000 yr-old pottery sherd from Caesarea, Israel.
I have a 1,000+ year old bronze Byzantine Cross from an archaeological dig.
I am green with envy. :-)
It's black from age...
I'm getting a little moldy around the edges, too. ;-) I don't care about that. I just love that kind of stuff. I live in an area where there are a lot of Civil War relics people are digging up. I'd love to find something.....anything.....just a tin cup or a button would thrill me. If I could live my life over again.....I would stay in college and go into archeology. I may never get rich.....but I'd be doing something I love.
LLL.....I have already stated here on many occasions what a Civil War geek I am. I would drool if I could have souvenirs like that! My kids have a great great grandfather who fought in many Civil War battles. He was mustered out in Missouri at the end of the war, and went on to be the first constable in a county in downstate Illinois. Capt. Christopher William Clapp. His name is in a book here at the Fredericksburg battlefield visitors' center. The pictures are great.....handsome men run in your family, it appears. :-)
I have copies of the first and last of those pictures, but, of course, mine are not in color.
Thank you.
i have some more civil war websites someplace..i'll have to look for them..and you are always welcome
It was a gift from one of the profs at the univ. where I used to work; he took a trip to Israel & brought it back for me.
