I love gel pens, but you don't want to write checks or address envelopes with them.  They wash off.

Used to always buy the clear Bics, but they're not as good as they were so the last time I bought Papermate.

I like Papermate Flexgrip Ultra pens. Bought 3 or 4 boxes of then YEARS ago at a yard sale for practically nothing. I'm down to the last 2 or 3. But I'm just as likely to pick up a pencil as any pen.

I carry a Sharpie in my right pocket at all times. Funny story. This fall I had a basal cell carcinoma removed from the left side of my face by my left ear. The doc, after numbing the area was marking my face where he was going to cut. He was using a pen, but it wasn't marking. I gave him my Sharpie. Problem solved! He kept my Sharpie and I had to get another one.
