Years ago we took down a wall to make a more open floor plan. The ceiling was textured, (not popcorn) so where the wall was, I had to try to match the texture, and the original paint. It was a section about three inches wide and about twelve feet long. I bought a pail of plaster patch, and patched it six times, and wiped it off six times before getting it right on the seventh try. Then had to match the paint. which involved cutting out a small section of the original ceiling, and taking it to home depot to get a computer color match. That meant I had to repair the small section that I cut out and again match the texture around it. I can see the slight difference in the texture, but it's so close that anyone walking into the place would never notice it.
I tried to fix a computer once.it didn't end so well for the pc.
I usually try to do things myself first. But it always ends up with a pile of screws and something strewn about on the floor.
