Why shouldn't same sex couples have the same opportunity be as miserable as everyone else?
Ummm, uno is right. And when they divorce, they get screwed just like the rest of us...
Why should we care about what someone else wants to do with their personal life? Everyone should have the same rights. It does matter when it comes to being in the hospital or when someone is at the end of life. Let people make their own decisions.
It's not about making judgements about people.... good or bad....it's a civil rights issue.
It's just that it will happen sooner or later . Should be settled once and for all . That's not judging one or the other . It's a yes or no thing . People will always will be against or for , it's their nature . Much like Whites marrying Black's or other races . People just get used to it over time ....
Saying something is bad or good is a judgement, but thanks for clarifying what you meant. It would be nice if people would get used to allowing groups of people their equal rights but I think like with racists, they don't get used to it... and I think they need the protection of the court to ensure that their rights are protected.
As a nation it is an idea that's time has come and at this point regardless what decision the Supreme Court comes to, it will more and more come to reflect the view of the nation. With most younger people it is not an issue and more and more faith-based groups and churchs have come to accept it. There are exceptions of course as some see it as a threat to Biblical foundations or political aspirations. I saw a video this morning which challenges some of those beliefs. I decided not to post it lest literal believers will accidentally be exposed and deprived of their heavenly reward. It was 4 minutes of how the Old Testament mainly portrays relationships which to put it mildly was anything but one man/woman.
I am a bit of a libertarian on this issue. Get the government out of marriage completely. If people want have some sort of ritual on their own or in a church, then have at it. When it comes to tax breaks, benefits, etc. all should be treated the same. One of the cases presented in a discussion of the Supreme Court proceedings was the case of a Gay couple in which one had died and the survivor was presented with a $300,000 plus tax bill on inheritance and they compared it to a man/woman marriage in a similar sitation in which the survior would have had no bill at all (I think this was a California case).
