TBD on Ning

I have several adult birthdays this month for step children and my son, I have run out of ideas for gifts, these are for people in their late 40's to mid 50's as so many of you are. What would you like to get as gifts? Help me out a little.

Gift cards seem to be more and more popular for everything from clothing stores, outdoor outfitters to Gas/Convenience stores. If they should get any liquor or cigars they don't want, keep me in mind.

Avacados and dark chocolate.  Lake Champlain chocolates are high end but it doesn't take a lot to satisfy your sweet tooth. Snowflake chocolates are handmade with good karma from little old ladies in VT. My neighbor gave me avacados for Easter wrapped up like eggs. She's 89 and I had been craving them. One perfect piece of fruit that you know they'll like is a good way to say I LOVE YOU.

I personally wouldn't buy a gift card if you aren't giving it to the person directly. Nowadays a gift card states where a card may be used not WHO can use the card......if you mail the card there is no security.......it's the same as mailing cash......which most of us wouldn't do.

i dunno maybe its just me but i always wanted one of these ..

I could use one of these actually.

I know everyone loves gift cards, but they always feel pretty impersonal, appreciated but impersonal.  Anyway here are some ideas...For the ladies, do up a basket of their favorite beauty products, or perhaps some high end products they would never buy for themselves, face creams, shampoos, lotions, facial wipes for removing makeup, you get the idea, you can combine it with some spa like products like soft slippers and absorbent hair wraps, inflatable bath pillows etc.  You can usually find some good deals on products at Marshals or other discount stores.  Slip in a nice note to say that you think they they deserve to pamper themselves.   Do they like to cook or do they always compliment you on a particular dish?  Hand write the recipe on a pretty card, then gather all the ingredients that they would need to make the dish including a new dish or bowl to serve it in.  If they like wine, get them a nice bottle or two of their favorite variety and put it together with a nice throw, a couple of nice plastic glasses, a new cork screw and the directions to a secluded spot for a picnic.  Does your son play a sport?  Perhaps you buy him an hour of an experts time, golf, tennis, etc. at a local country club or gym or sports club.  They will usually spend time giving them tips on how to improve their game.  Men don't like to ask, so your buying the advice for them gets them off the hook but allows them to take advance and improve their game and they love that!  LOL

Thanks T2, great ideas for the ladies they will enjoy that. My son is the difficult one, his hobby is playing in a band on the weekend and collecting and selling guitars. I would never know what he has or doesn't have at the moment, he lives 2500 miles away.

I just wanted to do something personal for him besides clothes and money. I'm wondering about stuff for cars that I'm not aware of.

if you ever wanna know about guitars you could always ask me lifey .. i know quite a bit about em .. i don't know everything , but then nobody else does either .. and if i don't know , i can usually find out .. and my advice is free ..

What would you send him if you didn't know what he has? Thats the big problem...what would you like to get for a birthday frenchy?

Does he have a favorite song?  Sometimes you can find the sheet music and the picture is nice enough to frame.  Or just framing the music can be kind of cool too, and makes a nice gift.

It might be a little lame but I don't think too many people are disappointed in being given a  "TICKET" to get a GOOD dinner out at somewhere like Olive Garden, Red Lobster, etc. Some people just don't want to spend the money on something like that.

Oh...depending on if they have a special interest, there are places like Walmart, walgreens, etc. (Where there are "photo labs") and you can get their picture on a "magazine cover". Its not a "real magazine but it looks like it. There are subjects like Golf, sports, cooking, motorcycles, etc. I got that for my Stepdad one year and he absolutely LOVED it!!!
