Who defined colors?

I mean...who decided the sky would be "blue"?

And, to paraphrase Mr. Wright [Ithink]...why is an orange called an orange, but a carrot isn't?

I can answer part of them. An orange is called an orange because when the first oranges were brought to Europe in the early 1500's thay were taken to the Netherlands and presented to the king. I don't know his full name but his last name was orange. A relative of his was William of Orange who along with his wife Mary became King and Queen of England in 1688. The College of William and Mary in Virginia is named after them.  Anyway the fruit is named for the King and the color is named for the fruit. Does that make sense?

How did Dickweed get it's name?

Maybe it was named by a dick head.
