Today marks the 6th anniversary of the passing of Johnny Cash...aka The Man In Black. He was perhaps the greatest known musician not only in his roots of Country music, but really in any genre of music. In terms of contribution to advancing the musical world, he stands right up there with the likes of Elvis Presley.

I thought it might be nice if we could share our memories of the man...What was your favorite Johnny Cash song? Favorite story you have heard about him? Or maybe you even seen one of his concerts?

I was at a concert of his back in 1987. The tickets was a birthday gift that year. The man as expected put on a solid performance. And after the show was over he got down into the crowd and signed as manyu autographs as he possibly could. I have several favorite songs he have done including "Walk the line" and "Sunday Morning Coming down". My favorite vidio was his last song he did which was 'Hurt', which of course was his renedition of a Tom Petty song.

I like Johnny Cash.
I liked the movie I walk the Line. I think I will watch the DVD tonight.

I like the song...
I hear that train a comin'
coming round the bend
I ain't seen the sunshine since I don't know when
I'm stuck in Folsom prison and time keeps dragging on
but that train keeps a rollin' on down to San Anton
He definitely is one of my favorites. I think he is the only person elected to all three - the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the Country Music Hall of Fame, and the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

I can't pick out a favorite song.

When The Man Comes Around

I have a Cash memory. I was in Norfolk, Virignia when Johnny had just been released from the jail for being caught with uppers in his guitar in Texas?--(it has been a long time folks) he was doing the opening act for the Statler Brothers. This is way before the black days, He was just beginning to travel with June Carter. He was so thin, and June did her Minnie Peal act. The Statlers were in their Military uniforms and I sat throught 2 shows 3 hours apart. It was the beginning of the magic for Johnny and June and the Statler were great. Memory lane this morning.
I ushered one of his shows when I was in college in Atlanta. He was with the Carter Family and some other act. It was a good time. I recall hearing the dropping of pint bottles throughout the night.
My name is Sue,
How do you do?
Now you are going to die.

Johnny was great.
My favorite Johnny Cash song. Even if it was written by Kris Kristofferson.

Here is the song that got his nick name

This is an incredible song!! It was writen by Johnny's daughter Roseanne, and as far as I know is the only song they perform together. It is a song about family and mortality.

I saw Johnny Cash twice in concert...the first time sticks out as the clearer of the two times.

It was in the Lansing, Michigan Civic Center, in March, 1969. He was headlining a revue which also featured June Carter, The Carter Family including Mother Maybelle, Carl Perkins, Tommy Cash and the Statler Brothers. That show was just awesome!

I started following Johnny Cash in the early 60s. I was a rebellious young guy, and he seemed to right out there on the edge, a no bullshit, don't give a damn kind of guy. He seemed to be the real deal....not like those skinny little British Invasion guys.

I followed him avidly for many years, but with passing time, my interests wandered to other forms of music. I was amazed, when told in the early 90s that he had become an icon to the punk rockers.

I still have my early Johnny Cash vinyl albums, the dust covers are pretty beat up, and who knows how scratched the records are?

I just might play a couple tonight!
