TBD

TBD on Ning

Inspired by a "sign".

Share with us a random act of kindness you have witnessed or initiated yourself without forethought...just because.

Not long ago I was driving home down a side street.  Up ahead I witnessed a man on a bicycle loaded with plastic bags full of empty cans riding down the street on the opposite side.  In a slit second I saw him wipe out..bike down, him on the street...pop cans everywhere.  Just as he fell on the road and started to get up from his hands and knees, a van pulled up along side and then parked in front of him.   A young man got out and went over to help the fellow up and and then a young woman got out of the van with some empty grocery bags in her hand.

All of this happened as I was passing.

It only took seconds....I will be impressed for a lifetime.

I saw this on CNN yesterday at lunch - amazing!! how wonderful.

The focus of our news is, and always has been, to feature the negative.

To quote Anne Frank, "Despite everything, I believe that people are really good at heart."

Perhaps that's naive, but I believe that there are more kind and caring and generous people out there than we know about.

Call me Pollyanna :-)

Dear Polly

I think you are right but there is a huge portion of the population that is, well just mean and uncaring. When people cheered at the Republican debate last week when it was brought up that Rick Perry had ordered well over 200 exicutions while governor it made chills run through me.

Jaylee,

I saw that video on TV yesterday and it amazing what they did. The guy who pulled the motorcyclist out from under the car was an immigrant. I wonder how that set with many.

PA--you're right--there are horrible horible people out there, but the  Polly in me has to believe that they are outnumbered!?

I couldn't believe how loud the tea party crowd cheered when the host asked Ron Paul if the 30 year old without insurance should be left to die. My stomach physcially turned.

And, Herman Cain saying he'd do away with the EPA!???

I could go on but I just had a really good breakfast, I'd like to keep it down.

I just posted something about serendipity on another thread & then read this thread which seems so tied to what I just wrote about. It's serendipity! ❤

13 years & 2 months ago I came upon a young dog standing in the middle of an intersection in rush hour traffic. She was sopping wet from a thunderstorm that had just passed through & seemed frozen in fear from the cars trying to get around her. She was blocking traffic. I got past her, but looked in my rear view mirror & couldn't bear it. I pulled over, coaxed her over to me & put her in the back seat of my car. I immediately put signs up around the neighborhood,  got a "found" description of her logged in at the local humane society & posted a "found" description of her in the Atlanta Journal's Lost & Found section of the newspaper. But as soon as I spent a little time w/her it became very evident that she was a terribly traumatized, abused little pup. I went back around & took down all the flyers & vowed not to return her if her owner contacted me.

She's an old lady of 14 now, suffering from age-related dementia that causes her to have such terrible separation anxiety when I'm not home that she's pretty much torn up my house over the last several months. She's now a total pain in the @ss. But she's worth it. I have loved this girl so much. We watched her ever so slowly emerge from a completely traumatized pup who was always waiting on us to hit her to a happy-go-lucky, spoiled, entitled house dog. My ex & I had 2 dogs & 2 cats when I crossed paths w/this one & we'd been complaining since the addition of the last one that we were overrun w/animals. I'm so glad I made this random act of kindness & decided to keep her. She has been such a gift. I am really grateful for her.

I took this pic of her just a minute ago...

I see a smile....
One night, while crossing the Beasley’s Point Bridge, Kelly noticed a bumper sticker affixed to the toll booth that said, “Practice Random Acts of Kindness.”

“What possible random act of kindness could occur here, on a bridge, at a toll booth?” I asked.

He promptly paid the toll for the car behind us…

Thank you {all}  for helping restore faith.

I too have always held Anne Franks' words to heart since I was a young girl and read her diary.

In spite of the horrific deeds man has inflicted on man,  there is the intrinsic desire to be held and comforted...sheltered and protected from all harm by each and every one of us.

If we don't get it...we will give it.   It may not overpower the evildoers but it will make a difference..even for a fleeting moment.

Thanks to all of you...for  many moments.

I don't know that I've ever performed any exceptional acts of kindness.....just the usual stuff, carried groceries to cars for ladies, held doors open for folks with their arms overflowing with stuff, did help a lady up after she twisted her ankle in a pothole in a Hobby Lobby parking lot and laid herself out flat scattering the contents of her purse in several directions. I have been moved by the generousity of ordinary folks helping others during the recent fires here in Texas and the storms and floods in other parts of the country.

I like to think most of us want to help others in need when the opportunity arises, but mayhap the most overlooked are the smiles and warm greetings given to people in the service industries...those who ring up your groceries, listen to your complaints, fix your washing machine, fix your car, wash your dog. We easily forget how much a smile or a simple "thank you" can brighten anyone's day. It's easy, doesn't cost anything and it makes the giver and receiver both feel better.

A very gentle Texas lady was driving across the Pecos High Bridge in Texas one day.
As she neared the middle of the bridge‚ she noticed a young man fixin' to jump (means 'getting ready to' in Texas ).
She stopped her car‚ rolled down the window and said‚ "Please don't jump!!!
Think of your dear mother and father!!!"

He replied‚ "Mom and Dad are both dead; I'm going to jump."

She said‚ "Well‚ think of your wife and children!!!"

He replied‚ "I'm not married and I don't have any kids."

She said‚ "Well‚ Remember the Alamo!!!"

He replied‚ ''What's the Alamo?''

She replied‚ ''Well‚ bless your heart‚ just go ahead and jump‚ you dumb Yankee!!!"
