TBD on Ning

Due to much misunderstanding recently, I'm finding it necessary to display NING's rules on sexual content.  Violating them can mean the removal of this site.  I am asking all individuals and group moderators to please adhere to them.

There are many old, sexually related groups on this site.  These were spawned at a time when this site had little or no moderation and it was the creation of so many such groups on the NING network as a whole that caused them to implement these stricter guidelines.  I never closed or removed the old groups because the nature of our membership when I took ownership of this site gave me no reason to do so.  The members were content to let the groups die without me having to remove the posts of previous members.  Had I realized that there would one day be a sudden influx of new members who were unaware of NING's policies, I would have made certain that these groups were made inaccessible to the incoming people.

I want to make sure that everyone is aware of the nature of this site, before they get settled-in.  This is not just a TeeBeeDee thing...it is much bigger than that.

One additional note.  Many of the groups created here claim that they are without rules or guidelines.  This is untrue.  Every active group on the site is subject to the guidelines put forth by NING and the TeeBeeDee social networking site.

We believe in freedom of expression and Ning, as a broad-based service, is designed to respect many different perspectives and enable them to co-exist seamlessly and effortlessly. With that said, we do not permit pornography, adult content or nudity. To clarify what we define as adult content, nudity or pornography, networks that contain the following would clearly NOT be allowed:

  • Depictions or images of sexual acts or implied sexual activity
  • Nudity (exposed or see-though coverage of areas typically covered by a bathing suit or underwear)
  • Graphic photos or videos
  • Fetishes

Assuming the content mentioned above is not included, the following are examples of topics and content that would NOT be classified as adult content, nudity or pornography:

  • Ning Networks for heterosexual, gay, lesbian or transgender individuals
  • Breast Feeding networks, provided that there is no visible nipple or areola
  • Educational networks promoting safe sex

We recognize that the actions of one member do not reflect the intentions of an entire network or the Network Creator, however, we ask that you please take advantage of the many tools built in to your network to ensure that all of the content and members on your network fit within our rules, and yours!

Is this a NING or a TEEBEEDEE restriction?

EastSider, Sadly, I don't know you, and you don't know me, maybe we can fix that in the near future.  If you read the whole "Laying it On The Line" above, EddieDingo plainly says that this is Ning policy.

Even if it wasn't, EddieDingo has been charged with running this FREE site. For those that prefer not to adhere to the rules she sets up...

TBD, I'm obviously a guest here, trying to get clarification on what the rules are. Ning has rules, primarily to help protect itself against certain states' Victorian-inspired laws. Those laws however only concern themselves with pictures, not words, and NING does not prohibit sexual discussions.

Having said that, rules specific to certain ning groups, are determined by the person or people who run those groups, and if EddiDingo decided to ban groups that deal with human sexuality (and I don't mean the "educational" kind, then it's her sandbox. Just trying to decide if this is the sandbox I would rather spent my time in (given my interest in politics, sexuality and a few other topics). Is it OK to start a discussion group that shows weapons of mass destruction? :-)

Depictions or images of sexual acts or implied sexual activity

de·pict  (d-pkt)tr.v. de·pict·ed, de·pict·ing, de·picts

1. To represent in a picture or sculpture.

2. To represent in words; describe.

The issue is not whether or not I want sexual speech, it's that I support ALL speech, and will not participate in promoting, via participation, in anything that restricts our rights under the first amendment.  Good luck to you all.

This is not the site for you.

Well, no one has successfully defined what pornography is, all we can do is label or classify it according to our morality I suppose. So a video of a Kalahari bushman with exposed buttocks chasing down an Oryx on the Savannah is lumped in with pictures of University of New Hampshire topless coeds engaged in track and field high hurdles. Maybe if the bushman is transgender it is acceptable however.

I tend to give the whole debate a big don't care.

Boundaries? We don't need no shtinking boundaries!

While I simply avoid the groups and or folks I don't care for I gotta go along with Chief....if you don't like this site or the rules then go somewhere else and seek your fun.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again...

What Bob said.

Oh, and what Eddie said too.

Rules is rules.

And me and Slim never break the rules!
