Mr. Biden, speaking at a campaign event, said if Mr. Romney wins the presidential race he’d “let the big banks once again write their own rules,” a reference to Mr. Romney’s comments that he would roll back Wall Street reform. Mr. Biden said Mr. Romney would “unchain Wall Street,” and after boos from the audience he added, “They’re going to put you all back in chains.” *

One journalist interpreted it this way:

For those not following the latest entry in the long line of vice presidential nincompoopery, on Tuesday Joe Biden appeared in Virginia before a group of supporters, a number of them African-American, and said this of Republican Mitt Romney: “He is going to let the big banks once again write their own rules, unchain Wall Street.  He is going to put y'all back in chains."  Who knows what Biden was thinking? (the vice president surely doesn’t).  Was he just carried away in a speech?  Was this part of an intricate plan to link the Republican candidate to racism?  Does Biden really believe Romney, who once claimed (falsely) that his father marched with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., plans to bring back slavery?  Does Joe Biden, an attorney with an ego as big as his mouth, actually believe a president could reinstate slavery if he wanted to?  It doesn’t matter.  Whatever his motivations, he’ll emerge from this brouhaha unscathed.  Because he is a Democrat. **

Was it a racist statement?  Did it have anything to do with African Americans at all?  Does that matter, because the implication is offensive?  Can Democrats get away with things that the Republicans can not?  Are the Republicans desperately trying to grab quotes out of context?

Food for thought?

Thanks for posting this darroll.

Shoot,

I happened to look at the headlines and saw that.

I don’t think it’s offensive but funny.

I also don’t think it is racist. All of the world’s peoples have been in chains one time or another. No one has a corner market on being chained up.

Elections are fun, it comes down to he said, she said and we will never know how they feel about issues.

Some young black girl on Yahoo asked if the whites are going to make her be a slave again and I felt sorry for her. Don’t believe all you hear or read.

Not racist, not funny just the facts. The chains thing was obviously a reference to republican plans to screw ou the economy even more than it already is, economic chains.

I agree, referencing the 'unshackling' of Wall Street.

I also agree, but think it was probably a poor choice of words. In this crazy election cycle that we are all caught up in, the slightest misstep can make all the difference. (PS. I like Joe)

In my mind, it's just as Eddie said,he was just referencing the 'unshackling' of Wall Street'. but as we all know, each side are grasping at every straw. I just hope the American people don't end up with the short straw.
