TBD on Ning

Summer is over. I have had all my annual Doctor and dentist appointments and the results were fine. I have the RV and the Car that I tow behind the RV (refered to as a TOWD) both serviced and humming. I pulled out of the Greenville Family Campground at Haymarket, VA about 11 am today. Headed South. The trip today was pretty uneventful. It was a beautiful sunny day. I decided to spend the night at a KOA at Wytheville, VA. KOAs are usually more expensive than other RV parks. But you can usually count on thier facilities being clean and well maintained. I got a hair cut late yesterday and hadn't had a chance to wash my hair, so I needed a good shower and hair washing. KOA it is. I had just dumped my holding tanks, so I didn't need to dump yet. Therefore I decided all I need was a site with water and electric. They are usually cheaper than full hookups. This turned out to be a mistake. The site was so cramped and the turn coming out of it was so sharp that I hit the water pipe for that site. My exaust pipe bent it down and the back wheel ran over it. I went into the office and told the person at the counter. She said she would tell the owner. I said that I was going to the Flying "J" truck stop to gas up and I wanted to chane to a full hoop up pull through site. She said ok and assigned me to site 10.

when I got back the park owner was waiting for me. He started off by saying " this is a major problem. What are you going to do about it? I told hi that I had no idea what he wanted, that as far as I was concerned, I should never have been assigned a site that had a turn at the exit that my RV was to large to navigate. I won't bore you with the rest of the conversation. Tomorrow morning we will sort out how it will be resolved. Luckly I am retired and on my way south with no deadline.

This blog is intended to inform readers about life on the road in an RV.

Here are a couple pictures. Happy playing ball, and a shot of the RVs in the trees.

Well, we determined that the pipe was not ruptured where it connects to the main water pipe. So I agreed to Pay for the materials to fix it. We settled on $50. I feel that was fair. The people who would do the work are camp ground employees and would be working on something and getting paid anyway, so there is no reason for me to pay for them.
Tomorrow I will drive to the Atlanta, GA area. I have a life long friend who is currently there, so I'll visit with him. Saturday Or Sunday I will head on down Texas way. The Canadians and New Yorkers arrived in mass this evening. I have French Canadians all around me tonight. They are nice friendly folks.

Sorry to hear about your mishap. I would think that the park would have insurance to cover this type of thing?
How far south are you going? Do you have an itinerary or just winging the entire thing?
Looking forward to your posts :-)

It seems the employee would hold some responsibility here. Is it possible that you could offer the owner 1/2 of the cost ? You very easily could have kept on going but you did the honest and right thing, perhaps he should as well. At any rate, enjoy the rest of your adventure. Happy Trails :-)

Wed. Morning Oct. 21, 2009.
I'm still waiting to see what the cost of this little fiasco is going to be.
However, it is a beautiful fall day here in Southwestern Virginia. So, I'm going to try to enjoy it.
