This is just my opinion BUT a lot of so called bridges are not bridges. My wife and I often travel from Long Island to the Poconos, Pennsylvania area where on perfectly level roads I see signs that read."BRIDGE MAY BE ICY". What Bridge? I don't see a bridge. Do you see a bridge? By definition , a bridge is a structure spanning a body of water, valley,or a road or a structure carrying a pathway or roadway over a depression or obstacle. For me, there's something confusing about calling an elevated roadway a bridge.

Now our city of New York is full of bridges. Personally, for sheer beauty, I like our Verrazano Narrows Bridge. I'm sure runners in the NYC Marathon are glad when they cross the Verrazano from Staten Island to Brooklyn. Yes..The Brooklyn Bridge. There's a bridge someone would like to sell you. But if you're a bridge buyer, try the Ponte Vecchio. Our 59th Street Bridge inspired Simon and Garfunkel to sing a song about it but now that bridge has been renamed for our former NY mayor, Ed Koch.

The Golden Gate Bridge : Now, to me, that's a bridge. The most impressive bridge I ever drove over is the Cheasapeake Bay Bridge. In England, the Tower Bridge is standing but London Bridge is falling down. That's for sure. Speaking of collapsing, the Bridge of San Luis R3y. is in trouble. as is that elusive Bridge to Terabithia. The Bridge On The River Kwai is a favorite, but closer to our home here in NYC, George Washington got a well deserved bridge while Lincoln only got a tunnel.

The Pearl Bridge, The Great Belt Bridge,The Sydney Harbour Bridge. Now..those are bridges. When I drive over these "imaginary" bridges in the Poconos, it makes no sense to me at all. But like a bridge over troubled water, I will lay me down.
