Look Up ... Don't Look Down
The Electron was considered to be an Elementary Particle. Then colliding electrons into each other produced two smaller elements which make up the electron. The latest mathematical theory suggests there actually may be three...how much further can we go smaller, do we have the technology?
Therefore maybe it's time to stop looking down from macro to micro, but develop the theory of the beginning, and look up. it's pretty obvious we can not see such things as gravity, dark matter, or dark energy. If the particles / waves are so small they don't reflect light, the chances of us seeing those things will be as rare as seeing a black hole up close and personal. We will only be able to see such things in our minds; mathematically. Lets start at the bottom and look up; string theory or, the fabric of the universe.
