TBD

TBD on Ning

I finally got my Kindle Fire HD. I have completed the initial set up.

Now I'm ready to catch up on my Sci Fi reading. Please send me some book recommendations. :-)

Reminder: I am a fan of "hard science fiction".

Congrats on the Kindle!  I have the Kindle app on a Samsung Galaxy tab; decided to do it that way so I'd have the B&N Nook app also; and I use the Tab for other stuff too.  Gotta say tho, overall I like the Kindle better than the Nook, both in operation of the apps and choices in books.  And run, don't walk & get signed up with the KindleNation, BookGorilla & PixelInk sites; they'll send you email with great sales on ebooks; I espec. like KindleNation becuz you can set up a Tracker listing books you're interested in & to be notified when they drop below a certain price.

Okay, finally, some recommendations:

Slow Apocalypse by John Varley (postapocalyptic, post-oil, survival, pretty good, 3 1/2 out of 5 stars

The Object by Winston Emerson (aliens land; an African-American homeless guy helps out big time, great character)

Mountain Man by Keith C. Blackmore (1st in a series of zombie novels but wait, it's one of the few good zombie novels, I swear! :D)

Ice Diaries by Lexi Revellian (a postapocalyptic novel written by & about a 20-something gal but I think would be enjoyed by all)

The Henchmen's Book Club by Danny King (okay this isn't strictly hard SF but you have got to check this out if you have ever enjoyed a James Bond movie--even only one--this is a hilarious send-up of the Bond movies told from the viewpoint of one of the guys who works for the evil geniuses such as Dr. No, etc., omg, it was so funnnny!)

And another non-hard SF but again, so good if you have ever enjoyed any crime caper novels or movies:  Thanks for Killing Me by Bill Barol; laughed my butt off!

Have fun and enjoy the Kindle; one of the reasons I got mine was because it was getting harder & harder to find SF (except for teenage vampire stuff, groan, don't get me started, that shouldn't even be in the SF section, Barnes & Noble, c'mon!) anywhere other than Amazon.

Hi gang thanks for the book recommendation. They all look interesting. Especially John Varley's "Slow Apocalypse". I read his novel "Millennium" very good. The movie, not so good. :-)

I will add them to my list along  with "Prey"  by Michael Crichton, "Spin" by Robert Charles Wilson, "Leviathan Wake" by James S. A. Corey and a lot of other books
