Where Should We Meet 'n Greet?

The Daily Grind was my home in the original tbd. When I returned "over here" recently, the DG had all but faded into the sunset. I enjoy Q&A, Forum Discussions & Games, but I had really been missing the camaraderie of just checking in w/folks, hanging out, hearing how people were, without it being focussed on a singular topic as in our other groups. Some feel that the Q&A & Forum Discussions groups are not appropriate places for check-in, or 'meet & greet' threads. A handful of us have been trying to revive the Daily Grind, but I am not hopeful that it's revivable. I've noticed a number of threads in the last few days in Q&A & the Forum that fit the check-in/meet & greet bill.... what are your thoughts on this matter? Does a place to check-in appeal to you? If so, where would you like that place to be?

I love the DG and hope it is revivable or an updated form of it is created.
My personal preference and I believe I am in the minority and will happily defer to the group :-)

I believe the DG loses it appeal (for me) as a check-in when post after post of imbedded music fills up a page. I love the music and have found new songs and artists that I enjoy...but within reason. Sometimes it seems all it is are posts of music or pics of food. I like the chat and the back and forth. I dont like that many times I need to skip pages until I get to another post with actual words on it....

no, no, Janne, I'm w/you. I add music & graphics to my posts there, but I much prefer the banter, the camaraderie. That's the whole point for me. I think the Daily Grind is the most appropriate place for a check-in/meet & greet kind of venue, too, but it just doesn't seem to have tooth, and when check-in threads start in the Q&A & the Forum, I think it's easier for ppl to respond there & then they don't mosey on down the street to the DG. I don't know what the solution is; that's why I started this thread.

Oh, jeez, and I just offered a free mug to any mug who showed up in the DG. Heh. At least it's not a key ring.

I agree that the embedded music takes up a lot of space in there, though I love it when it is apt to the conversation. Why not another thread there in the WL for musical musings? Then we can all just share our latest finds or favorites.

As far as the pics, I enjoy hearing about and seeing what folks are up to - like Cat's latest postings - and I like the food/coffee/whatever that makes it seem hospitable. We can't offer the real thing, but the virtual is sort of heartwarming.
