My wife and I met friends last night in Engelwood, NJ,treking from our Queens, NY home in the frigid cold to see a concert at the Bergen Performing Arts Center. This was an oldies show opened by Gary Puckett of the Union Gap.He's 70,still has a poerful voice and sang all of his hits. I felt he was just a tad off key at times, and not accentuating certain words like back in the 60s.Maybe, I'm a bit too fussy , but overall, he was great.
After an intermission, Jay Black performed with his back-up musicians, including one son. Jay's voice is exceptional, even at 74. He walks a bit slower, does not resemble the Jay of Jay of the Americans back in the Dick Clark days..BUT can he ever sing all his hits. Cara Mia had a standing ovation as he hit some high notes for extended periods. So..let's lock the door and throw away the key now and keep these golden oldies forever. Young Girl.Woman Woman. Yeah-Only in America we can still enjoy This Magic Moment.
Jay Black is performing closer to us next weekend at Queens College. Yeah. I'd see him again BUT we have other plans already. LOL.
