GOP Response talking point #1
First off, the GOP chose a doctor to reply to the President. Wise choice. But damn...whose minding the shop there? Did they not realize that Senator Dr. Charles Boustany (R-LA) has been sued for malpractice three different times??? I mean REALLY!??? This is the BEST the GOOP can offer? Ah well, on to point #1.
"We do need medical liability reform, and it needs to be real reform. We need to establish tough liability reform standards, encourage speedy resolution of claims, and deter junk lawsuits that drive up the cost of care."
It should come as no surprise that the good doctor should lead with tort reform. This has been a GOOP battle cry since RayGun and brought to the forefront regardless of topic.
So...how much of a percentage of law suits involving medical malpractice in this country make up? When I worked for a congresscritter two terms ago (Jethro 1), whose husband was a lawyer, the number was less than 10%.
