Geometry Teacher Uses Obama Assassination to Teach Students about Angles

This is not an Onion headline: a geometry teacher in Alabama taught his students about parallel lines and angles using the charming example of assassinating President Obama.

The geometry teacher, who has not been named, was investigated by the Secret Service after word of his lesson got out, but the superintendent at the school where the teacher works, Corner High School, says that while the Obama assassination example showed “extremely poor judgment” on the teacher’s part, there are no plans to fire him.

The Birmingham News reports:

Officials said the Jefferson County geometry teacher was apparently teaching students about parallel lines and angles and used the example of where to stand and aim if shooting Obama.

“He was talking about angles and said, ‘If you’re in this building, you would need to take this angle to shoot the president,’ ” said Joseph Brown, a senior in the geometry.

School Superintendent Phil Hammonds says there are no plans to fire him. ”We are going to have a long conversation with him about what’s appropriate,” Hammonds tells The News. “It was extremely poor judgment on his part, and a poor choice of words.”

It does make me wonder...aloud...where ANY SCHOOL OFFICIAL...ESPECIALLY A TEACHER...is permitted to teach violent acts of any sort as legitimate eduction? I understand now that the Chit Storm has landed front and center on the Super's desk...the teacher has been placed on "paid administrative leave."

As a follow-up...seems I was right....it IS illegal for anyone to threaten the life of a sitting President...even by implication. It seems that the Secret Service made a call on said Superintendent and Principle and teacher. I'm guessing that a whole lot of backsides puckered REAALLLLLY tight with the US Sec Service showed up! The S/S (sigh) determined there was no real threat and left the matter in local hands.

On a similar note...some blow hards in a Wisc bar decided a fun night would be to burn the President in effigy with a noose around his neck. Seems the Secret Service is looking into that as well.

Methinks there should be at least a FINE of some sort...minimum!

You can bet your last dollar this teacher would have been fired on the spot if he had used Bush as his example.
