TBD on Ning

Okay, now that I've got your attention, let me say right off that I'm here to praise the paleo diet not bury it (to paraphrase Shakespeare or whoever it was).  I don't really have a warning about the diet at all, just the teensiest bit of cautionary advice about it but I was thinking maybe "warning" might get more to read this post, lol.

Anyway, Hubby has been on a modified paleo diet for close to a year now ever since he was diagnosed diabetic (not insulin-dependent but still definitely diabetic) and has continued on with it in an effort to lose weight (which he's done) because of his heart issues, by-pass, etc.  Within about 4 months after starting the diet, his blood sugar had dropped down to, and has remained at, absolute normal (and it's been checked several times).  Now I'm not telling anybody who's diabetic & insulin dependent to stop the insulin & just go on this diet; not saying that at all, but seems to me that, keep up with what your doctor orders but maybe just give at least a modified version of this diet a chance for a little while anyway?  Seems like it couldn't hurt anyway.

Okay, now here comes the "advice":  what with the increased amount of nuts, seeds, beef jerkey, trail mix, granola bars--and yes, you can find low-sodium, low-calorie, low-sugar versions of all of those, have to look around but they're available--that he's eating, he's broken 2 teeth!

So I've told him that he needs to learn to chew differently (easier said than done, I admit), that he can't fiercely chomp away like you can with a mouthful of mashed potatoes or pasta; I said "you need to learn to nibble gently; so when you're eating, try to imitate Rocky the Flying Squirrel, not Rocky Balboa, the boxer, lol."  Also, seems like learning to "nibble" gently & slowly might also help with the weight reduction/maintenance thing; they say the slower you eat, the faster you get filled up & therefore eat less.  Worth a try anyway.

Okay, enuff boring advice; it's the weekend, have a good one, everybody!
