I've been reading the book The Life of Logic: The Rational Economics of an Irrational World by Tim Harford - highly recommend it.

It covers lots of ground, but to me the most interesting part (since I don't gamble) regards relationships.  Over the past few days it has really clicked with me as to why I took myself out of the dating/marriage market. There is a huge imbalance in favor of men and this puts woman at such an extreme disadvantage they are faced with using sex to barter for a date (which we've heard discussed before).

I am probably going to buy my own copy after I return this book to the library.  Don't do much of that.

For a bit of an introduction, here is an article from Slate Magazine onThe Economics of Marriage.  And here's a .pdf from the Milken Institute. Only it deals more with Jesus Ferguson and the slot machines.

Game theory seems to feature widely, so I guess soon I'll be studying that as well.

I found a one hour vid by the author for those who'd like an oral presentation on c-span.

If anyone looks into the above, let me know and we can discuss.

Oh, foo - the links don't show up.  In the line about Slate Magazine - mouse over "The Economics of Marriage" for the link.  Ditto "one hour vid" on the line about oral presentation on c-span.
