About the time I retired, my employer was initiating health screenings for its employees much to a chorus of objections from many of them. As part of this, they were questionning and determining your tobacco use. Tobacco users were goingto start paying higher premiums. There was a great deal of suspicion about motives for these screenings. Was it just to confirm who the smokers were or woudl this lead to somethign else? Specifically, concerns were raised about going after the obese next.

Well, Aurora Healthcare is now doing that exact thing with its employees with incentives to its non obese employees in the form of a $13 credit on premiums every two weeks.

When I was working, my company paid part of any exercise you did up to a point. Can't member the cut off $, but I belonged to a walking club they paid my yearly dues and on Mon morning I would go in and show them my book to prove that I had walked and they paid the walking fee.

Just so everyone knows, not everyone who is having health problems did not lead an un healthy life style. I was in the mountain club and did an 8 mile hike every sunday and I belonged to the walking club and did a 6 mile walk every Sat.during the week walk 3 miles every day.Today I have a bad back so i can only walk about 1/2 block, have had stroke, HA, and a brain infection

I was very lucky when I retired I was able to take my insurance with me at the same price the company paid for it, till I was 65, now I have medicare and a supplement that I get from my union at a very reasonable price.

On my drug program the co-pay on RX is usually higher than the $4 Walmart RX, so unless its a rally high cost drug I never use mine program. My dr. is very good at seeking out something on the Walmart list. Each time I go I give him the new Wm list, it csomes out about every 2 months. Even one of the pills i take is 40mg, but that one is not on the $4 list, would be about $30, but he writes it for 2-20mg and I get them on the $4 plan.

Our company was bought out by another, but they have been very good keeping us up on things and they still belong to our union(and their other companys) so that keeps money going into the pension fund. Now the management who were non-union have not faired as well . They ended up having to work longer for their pensions and also took a cut in pensions.
