I sure hope his hospital stay is a short one, and that his elevated stubborn fever goes away soon.  He has lower-body Parkinsonism, which causes a loss of balance, and he's used wheelchairs for more than a year now.
He'll be missed out around mile 19 of the Chevron Houston Marathon.  We missed him in the 2011 marathon, but that was the one that had so much rain and possible thunderstorms.  I hope he's back out there again in 2014.
Here’s a cute true story of the photo-taking event of our Katy Fit group in the 2010 Houston Marathon! When we ran over to the former president, and I asked him if we could take a picture, he smiled and said, Sure!"  I asked a man standing next to him if he would take the picture. He just kept looking at the former president and didn’t say one word. I asked him again, and he did exactly the same thing. Then GHWB finally said, "He’s Secret Service, and he can’t take any pictures." I said, "Oh," and asked another man standing nearby, and he was glad to take pictures. So since I stood next to GHWB, I put my arm around his shoulder, and because he was sitting quite low, and I was standing straight up, it would have been difficult for him to put his arm around my waist, so he put it around my calf. As we finished taking the pictures, he said, "Wow, you don’t have any fat on your legs!" I didn’t have the nerve to say to him, "Well, if you’d had your hand on my thigh instead of my calf you definitely would not have said that!!"

I had a date with one of GHWB's Secret Service men a few years back, and I think he was one of the shyest (but nicest!) men I ever dated - I was just surprised that he was shy and seemed somewhat unsure of himself!

I always liked George HW Bush.  While he had differing views than mine, he wasn't so far off the charts like some of the politicians now.  I hope he gets well soon.

This was a photo taken in 2008 with my son-in-law and some of his running buddies.  The former Prez looked a lot healthier than he does now.

Good ole Former President George H. W. Bush - his sense of humor is still intact!  There was an article in the Houston Chronicle today that mentioned that his Chief of Staff, Jean Becker, said the following after the former Prez's spokesman in Houston said he'd been in intensive care and remained in the hospital in "guarded condition" with an elevated fever' and it had prompted inquiries from "most of the civilized world."

Here's what she said:  "Is he sick?  Yes.  Does he plan to go anywhere soon? No," she wrote.  "He has every intention of staying put.  He would ask me to tell you to please, 'Put the harps back in the closet'."
