This is an article I read on Yahoo today and thought I'd share it and get some opinions. In my opinion, this lady was terminated because of her sex. I don't think she should have been terminated. What it tells me is that this dude....Dentist....had no control over himself. And he's basically telling his wife that any female he comes in contact with who is attractive, is a threat to his marriage. Kinda stupid to me......but would like to hear other opinions.

Sounds as if that dentist is not fit to practice. If he can not resist his assistants what would he try with his patients? Maybe he is elligible for a good lawsuite from his assistant and a divorce from his wife.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh - That makes my blood boil - it brings back memories of two different situations in my own life that were similar.  Regarding the first one, I won't  go into the details about the married manager of a nice department  store in Detroit where I worked when he was constantly calling me to his office to try to start an affair.  Since I told him I had learned about married men the hard way and that I was not interested - he first demoted me and then he laid me off. I just accepted unemployment and didn't do anything else about it.  Regarding the second situation, I DID go before the EEOC who showed me that I don't trust or respect that commission at all, and then I filed a law suit; but because it was when I worked for the State Of Texas, the State was much more powerful than my attorney or me, and I ended up being demoted.  I wanted to quit then, but I'm so glad I didn't; and I eventually retired from the State Agency a number of years later after there was new management in place and I had a different position.  With everything that has happened to me regarding sexual harassment, I NEVER believed Clarence Thomas, the Supreme Court judge, regarding what I considered to be "untruths" he spoke regarding the situation with Anita Hill.  I respect her SO much!

Sorry, Woody, that post brought back some very painful memories to me!

Nobody should have to go thru such things at the workplace. Am happy that you were able to complete your retirement and happy that you got the good management before. You certainly deserved the break. I was a Quality Assurance Manager and always treated my female help wth the highest respect.

Thanks Frank, and thank you for your support!

You are certainly welcome TornadoWoman.

His biggest mistake was letting her, or anyone, know why he fired her. If he just fired her, all she could've done is collected unemployment until she found another job -- unless the law in their state is different than here in FL. Most very small businesses can hire and fire at will, without the fear of reprisals or lawsuits unless the firing is done for an illegal reason -- sex discrimination is an illegal reason. However, in this case, he fired her because she was not a good fit for the office -- he shouldn't have said it was because she was too attractive -- what a putz!

In my own situation regarding the State, I felt a little bit better a few years later when my OWN married boss (who someone had spread rumors that were completely untrue that he and I were having an affair) did not defend me at all.  He was NOT a "putz,"  he kept saying he didn't recall any of the events that had happened.  Of course, he had just recently obtained his law degree while he was my boss!  Eventually, he was transferred to the Austin office where he got himself into more hot water, and he soon retired!

Yeah, us irresistable people often have to deal with that. Why oh why was I cursed with these good looks!

In all seriousness I do understand the Doctor's conundrum, but methinks his text messages was the heart of the problem. You just don't go there. For him to go from that to "your fired because you are a threat to my marriage" is just wrong. The publicity may hurt her chances from finding similar employment, particularly from married male dentists. He's lucky she did not sue him for sexual harassment on the text message questionning her Os. Sounds like a jerk to me.

I hate to hear stories like this.  Why do women have to be subjected to this nonsense.  I hope she sues him and wins.  He was guilty of sexual harrassment with those texts.  Just wrong!
