What we feel is the meaning may not be the meaning. Or conversely, the feeling that there is no meaning may be only a "feeling." Who knows, our planet may just be a farm for some aliens who are waiting out of sight for the population they planted here to become marketable. For them the meaning of human life would be similar to how we view beef cattle. What the perspective or meaning of life is from the viewpoint of the cattle I cannot say. They enjoy the sun and shade, good water and food, carrying out the commands of the DNA, avoiding predators, and are lucky enough not to be able to contemplate the meaning of life too much.

When I read what you wrote last night, Shadowman, the only thing that kept coming to mind is " To max out the present."  Reading what you wrote this morning about the cows enjoying the sun and shade and god water reinforces that. 

So, despite what Livia Soprano says about it all being a big nothing, I'd say the meaning of life is to BE in the present to the fullest extent.  Animals have this down pat.
