my neice had it for 12 years before they officially diagnosed it.she drove to Philly everyday for the past 3 years, she had a port in her shoulder for the antibiotics, the poor girl is still suffering.her brother was just diagnosed with it,and my sister had it for about 5 years now,it's so much worse that people can imagine, but i live next to a wooded are and i'm always picking woodticks of of me.i do have deer coming up into my back yard.

I'm with you Pat. You know I have had some unique health issues  and it has required some thinking outside the box when it comes to treatment. If I don't have a doctor that is willing to listen to me and really understand my history then I don't need to be a patient of his or hers. The standard, " you've had before therefore you need this treatment or test or medicine", doesn't work with me, I'm not a cookie cutter patient. I am always looking for cutting edge, anything if it's to improve my expected lifespan and quality of life.

Medicine really is an art...they just use science instead of paint...I know its a little more than that, but doctors are people too they are not infallible..and unfortunately they have other masters  instead of attending to their patients needs...It is an industry like any other...you have to be the sqeeky wheel all the time.

I have been fired by doctors...ask me if I care...I'm still alive.

well .. if you ask me when i hear that 4 out of 5 doctors recommend somethin i wanna know what that one doctor recommends . cause 4 out of 5 of em are assholes ..that one dr' is probably the only one who knows what he's talkin about and not goin with the crowd.. and you're right pat .. you ask a dr. how long you been a dr. for ?? and they'll say i been practicin medicine for 21 years now .. and the first thing i'll say is you're still practicin ?? still ?? when you gonna get it right ?? and quit practicin ?/ how would you like it if i practiced payin you ?? nahh .. i think most dr's just go with the flow and learn just enough to get by .., they can probably treat the everyday kinda stuff .. but throw somethin unusual at em and they're baffled bothered and bewildered .. if you're healthy i'd say stay away from dr's cause if you don't have nothin wrong they can make somethin wrong monkeyin around with you .. i don't have all that much trust in the medical community .. and i have my reasons ..

Oh wow Flipper! Thats crazy! My friend's daughter had a port in her arm for the past 8 years. From 14 years old till NOW. She is a LOT better and her and her mom are really helping people with Lyme Disease in Tennessee. May I ask what state they live in?  (I thought YOU lived in  New Jersey?) There is GREAT denial by doctors that Lyme Disease actually exists past the initial 6 weeks or so after being bit. MOST people never knew they were bit or bit so many times, they think nothing about it. TICKS arent necessarily the only things that carry Lyme Disease. It was first thought it was strictly the deer tick but its no longer true so everybody is at risk, really.  I had it, of course but my ex husband also did and I know of ABOUT a hundred in the area where I lived in Tennessee. But the Infectious Disease Organization in Chattanooga denies that there is a problem THERE or ANYWHERE in Tennessee. THAT is because NOBODY will diagnose people there. MY ex husband SOMEHOW ended up with a doctor in Nashville (2 hours away) but that was only a couple years ago. It MAY be getting easier now to find a doctor. I dont know. When I left Tennessee about 3 years ago, I was attending a newly formed Lyme Disease Support Group. The stories of suffering were incredible! I had promised to do something in Pennsylvania but so far I just get on FORUMS to try and answer people's questions because I have "been there".

My 25 year old daughter thinks SHE has it. It would be a surprise if she did NOT. When she was about 11 or so, we owned 50 acres. Almost HALF of it was woods. We didnt LIVE there, just went up on weekends. (till she was about 20) We would JUST get done spraying everyone down with "DEEP WOODS OFF" and I swear this kid would have  25-50 ticks on her legs and more crawling up her arms, etc.!! NO MATTER what we did, the ticks ate her alive!! We FINALLY found the ONLY spray that worked is "Cutter". But heck, by THEN, it was probably already too late.

I live in Central NJ,my sister's family lived a couple small towns away from me but moved to PA just over a year ago,i lived next to a large wooded area,my sister did too, when she lived here,I have noticed that most doctors believe there is no such thing as Lyme Disease.

Yeah Flipper, you are right, they DONT!! They would rather just call it Fibromyalgia or Multiple Sclerosis and move on. I've talked to a "few" people in Pennsylvania (Pittsburgh area and a bit) online and they tell me Pennsylvania CDC denies a problem too. ACTUALLY, the people who SAW the tick and get RIGHT to the doctor have no worries....6 weeks of antibiotics and they are cured!! Its us ones who fall between the cracks because the symptoms have got out of hand and multiplied over the years. There are approximately 130 symptoms....lucky me, I ONLY had 100 and I never ended up in a wheelchair or having to take IV antibiotics like some people do. (I took oral antibiotics for almost 3 years.)
