kinda reminds me of peggy lee..i like the bass too its what you call a fretless electric which is rather unusual .. but they have a very distinct sound .. more like a real standup bass .. a much more melodic bass that becomes part of the song as opposed to just a beat in sync with the drums as a lot of bass is today ..

mary coughlan is virtually an institution in ireland as a torch singer..does some great renditions of billie holiday songs..tho i have to admit she has a spotty record as far as the songs she has recorded

you are very welcome...for those who know me, they know i am slightly demented about music...(yes, slightly, dammit....don't make it a big thing!)...and i really like hearing different interpretations of musical works. some i like...some i don't but it is illuminating to hear different takes on the same piece...and every now and then you find yourself hearing something and wondering "where did THAT come from?"

I never paid so much attention to the lyrics of For a Dancer. I looked them up and read along. Sniff from me as well. Such pathos. Beautiful.

jackson browne is an incredible writer. i've loved his music since he was playing coffeehouses in the 60s...it ain't just moon and june..it is the human condition...

you are so right vicki .. i still remember hearin dr. my eyes in 72 and not knowin who this guy was .. so i got his first album and was knocked over sideways .. i remember listenin to the beatles when they first came out and all their songs were .. kinda juvinile .. i wanna hold your hand .. she loves you .. love love me do .. and this went on for the first few albums and then came rubber soul .. and you knew .. these guys were finally men .. not kids anymore .. and here was jackson and he made it known from the getgo he wasn't some little teeny bopper kid . he was sayin somethin .. and death was a subject he handled more than once .. on his first album was a song called song for adam .. it never got a lot of airplay .. probably because it was way too deep .. but after tokin a few i'd get real inward and think about what the writer was sayin .. and jackson always said it about the best .. some could argue it was dylan but in my mind dylan was more like a chameleon .. he'd say somethin but never really commit to anything .. dylan was poeticly ambiguous .. and thats ok if you want to make a song fit a certain situation .. but jackson told it like it was .. nothin vague about his words .. here's a song about a friend of his who died.. mind you this was written when he was about 22 or 23 maybe even younger .. song for adam ..when i got his first album it was another one i stayed up with all nite till i figured most of the songs out .. i don't play this one as often as i used to .. but its still a very powerful song ..
