First off i like Fox News . Mainly because I'm a registered Republican . That said , i don't trust all they report . I watch CBS , NBC , ABC , PBS . I have to make my on decision what's right or if i smell a rat . There are a lot of good reporters out there , even on Fox . I live on common since to what i believe or not ....
None of the talking heads, and very little of the media unless I can verify it independently.
I listen to National Public Radio and particularly like the British Broadcasting Service early in the morning. My state also has a very good Wisconsin Public Radio service with a variety of guests, scientists, authors, etc. most of the day. Regularly they have both on at once, left and right, pro and con on various issues and the news of the week. There are also a few independent newspapers left and a couple of local ones that I read for local news. Nationally NPR, the LA Times, Christian Science Monitor and maybe a couple of others still have reporters around the world. On TV I watch very little but do like Bill Moyer's program. I do occasionally listen to some gas-bag radio but mainly for laughs and to see how many errors I can count.
In Wisconsin one does not register with any political party. However, in primary elections you cannot split votes, you must stick to one party. Come the general election you can pick and choose from all parties. Having said that there are political parties that you can join such as libertarian, democrat, republican, etc. but that is not connected to the elections board in any way but more like joining any other club or organization.
I do not trust any ONE station. I read a lot, flip around on the TV, and still know I don't have the REAL story. I just have people's perceptions of the story. I taught journalism for ten years and whether or not the news is really objective, whether or not is CAN REALLY BE objective, was always a big discussion. We came to the conclusion always that it can never be completely objective.
I can say this for sure. I want to kick Sean Hannity in the head when he stupidly says the same false thing or the same obvious thing over and over again just to inflame his audience. He is a stupid man. He even looks stupid. At least someone like Mark Levin, who screams and yells, has some knowledge about law and the Constitution. But Hannity!!!!!!!! Ack, ack! My opinon of course.
I could care less of Hannity also because same thing over and over .
If I say I watch Bill O'Reilly, will I be stoned??? I also watch mostly Fox, and occasionally CNN. I get a lot of news off the computer. I read no newspapers. I don't believe in anyone completely. No One! Not even my own family. People slant things to suit themselves. My two oldest granddaughters (sisters) are not speaking to each other. Big fight. My daughter is broken up about it. I have only heard one side of the story. I take it with a grain of salt, because I won't be able to determine what I believe to be the truth until I've heard her sis's side of it. I don't trust anyone......male, female, Republican, Democrat, newsman or Congressman. They only lie when they open their mouths.
Karin, compared to Hannity, even O'Reilly has a brain and sometimes can even be fair. And he wrote all those books...which means he know h ow to do research. All Hannity knows is how to beat people over the head with talking points that were handed to him. Ugh ugh ugh! Don't get me started.
I think this group leans a little to the right which is fine with me, sometimes I like to hear what the other side is saying a doing. What makes me wonder though is why when it has been proven over and over that a so called news station is making things up to get people riled up and mad when what they're saying isn't true that anyone would keep watching it?
I think that some people want to hear that stuff and keep themselves mad at what they perceive as "the evil other"
Another thing is I think political views are geographical like religion, what your neighbors think is important. I really do understand that but it's taking a toll on our country. We need more truth so we can correct real problems.
Rant over.
Who gets to decide.......since we all seem to agree that everybody slants things to their agenda......what is "True" and what isn't? How do we know who's lying to us? How do we know when Fox is telling us lies....or MSNBC......or CNN.....or the network news? Your idea of the "truth" may not be mine....or Chief's.....or Crest's. If no one gives us the straight scope......how do we know who's lying? It comes back down to what we chose to believe because it fits OUR agenda.
And there's something to be said about the geographical differences. There's the East Coast....the West Coast......and all of the people in the middle. Those "Fly-over States". There's a big difference in perspective.
I'm agreeing with you Karin, with Fox it has been proven, they've admitted it. Of course it's all slanted I'm just asking the question.
I spent 45 years in an area of Michigan where political views were pretty evenly divided I learned to listen to both points of view, have voted both ways over the years. In recent years I decided to go more to the left because it suits my views much better, however I do know both sides have huge perception problems of how they view the other side. My whole point it that the truth would bring us more together rather than apart. I think this country deserves to know facts and make choices based on facts. I have make a point of not watching news lately, they all make me tired.
There is a big difference in perspective which is what needs to change in my opinion. We should be finding more common ground. I'm sick of the lies and BS.
When I was younger family members were choosing different sides and we all discussed things and could see the other point of view. My brother has a different view than I have but now politics is pure hate.
It's wrong in my opinion to divide the country on purpose especially when it's done so some people can try to be in power.
i don't believe anything i see on tv.espescially news shows, they only tell you what they want you to know.
i probably lean more left than right but not always .. i think both sides will slant things .. yellow journalism is not somethin new .. i try my best to ask all the right questions and listen to both sides .. if i think one side is tryin to hide or fabricate somethin it makes me highly suspicious .. and fox and msnbc have both slanted things .. i think cnn is a little better.. and pbs tends to lean left but they seem to be tryin to keep it honest .. ehh.. lets face it everyone has an agenda .. we may not always know what it is tho so its up to us to dig a bit deeper to get the truth ..
