I don't have a problem with it but am beginning to wonder when they'll decide they should drop the age to 12. Or 10. Or maybe when a girl can prove she started her period and is at risk of getting pregnant at age 9.

Don't mean to be a smartass here, I just am a product of my time and wonder what happened to parents being involved in decisions. In a perfect world the girl would go to her parents for help (well, that's how it should be), not to some drugstore. And how dangerous is this pill? My 15 yr old, who isn't smart enough to buy a condom, can go buy a 'morning after' pill but what if she decides to take 2, just for good measure? Now she's at the hospital with good ol' Mom and Dad paying the bills, cause she's only 15, but we aren't included in the original decision. Slippery slope indeed. I guess someday they'll just take Mom & Pop right out of the equation at birth and raise them all in a factory.

From what I've been seeing lately around the net in many cases Mom and Dad aren't the best resource for help. Especially if they are living in those bible belt states. I'm glad it's available to the teens without parental consent.

I'm not against the kid getting it but I think SOMEONE should be explaining how to use it, the side effects etc if they aren't careful with it. Like the pharmacist, maybe. I just know kids aren't near as smart at some things as they are at others and wonder how many would actually read the directions.

Kids learn from other kids . I agree what Lifesighs said . The religious part i would say is old and outdated in today's Society . Good or not it's the way it is ....

quite often the reason the girl might be asking for the morning after pill is she may have been unable to go to her folks to ask about birth control...and pharmacists do explain meds to their customers...it is part of their job...in an ideal world, it would be the parents the girl goes to for help but we know how the world really works

I have to agree with AW here.  Kids are just that..kids.  They need to know what they are doing and how to do it.  It used to be the parents job but an adult for sure...

Wayne is correct that kids learn from kids (peers). Unfortunately, what they learn is often not accurate and the kids may not be knowledgeable about the various sexually transmitted diseases. That is why medically accurate Sex Education in important in our schools.  Otherwise they might "learn" things like:

 You can't get pregnant if

  • It's your first time;
  • If you're both virgins;
  • When the girl is having her period;
  • If the guy pulls out before he ejaculates or if he doesn't go all the     way in;
  • If you have sex in a pool or hot tub;
  • If the girl douches after sex;
  • If both partners don't orgasm at the same time;
  • If the girl jumps up and down after sex (to get all the sperm out);
  • If the girl pushes really hard on her belly button after sex;
  • If the girl takes a shower or bath right away;
  • If the girl is on top during sex;

Or that oldy goldy: If you do it while standing up (apparently works for males only)

all those work....i've never gotten pregnant.....maybe they just work for males....

'If the girl jumps up and down after sex (to get all the sperm out)'

Please don't spread this around. It's my favorite part of sex.

Boy you are rusty, that's after the sex 123

of course he's rusty...he has been having a shortage of helmet-polishing partners...
