What do you think of picking off people's ( like SOs or kids or close relatives or close friends) plates to see what their food tastes like?

In public I think it's tacky, but that's just me. And I would never share what I am drinking. Nope, I'm weird that way.

I rarely do it and only if invited to try it by the person who ordered it. If I have something different or interesting I will offer to share some before I start eating especially if someone says "that looks good".

I don't mind if my husband takes food from my plate, he is often undecided about what to order and then likes what I have more than what he ordered. He likes it better if I order for him, this is recent in the last few years...prior to that he was good about knowing what he wanted.

i wouldn't do it,i wouldn't like someone,anyone,doing it to me.

I forbid it! If you want some I will give you the whole plate and go get a different one. I can do you one better though. Years back I was at a brother's home and I ate a meal there as did his adult son (my nephew) My nephew had a small dog that ate off the same plate as he did. He would fork some food into the dog's mouth and then his own. Not that he would have ended up in my will anyway. ;-)

well i think a lot has to do who it is and how well i know them .. strangers ?? i doubt it.. but a good friend or family or a lover why not ?? food is meant to be shared and enjoyed .. i have no problem sharin ..

Gross!!!  I am weird about stuff like that.  Even my kids knew better than to eat or drink out of my plate or glass.

With close people, I am a sharer and a picker. I don't even think about it. My husband comes from a family that is more protective about its food, and it took him a long time to get used to my ways, lol. Once, my mother, he and I were at the diner together, and my mother and I were sharing, with permission, of course.  I don't just dive in.  My husband was shaking his head at us!

My first date as a single woman was with a man I knew since childhood but hadn't seen in many years.  We ordered mussels as an appetizer and ate out of the same plate in the middle of the table as though we had never had years apart, dipping our bread in the wine and garlic juices even though we had empty plates in front of us in which to put the mussels.

Funny how different people are.

it don't bother me.

I share and pick...part of the fun of eating with people I know and like. I don't like my  food and drink all slobbered over but I enjoy trying different things and different flavors. I always offer and I always ask first for those I've never broken bread with. Maybe it's a family kind of thing. When my immune system was severely compromised it was the hardest things for me to change....no double dipping, no swapping other's bodily fluids.

Hugging is one of those things too...

eww backwash.

hi Rose

i like to sample everything, no problem sharing... i could never be a waitress...

I am neither a picker or a sharer.  That was a rule even when my kids were little.  If they wanted a taste of mine, I would put a little of it on a separate plate.  But keep your hands off my plate!  When I married my last husband, every time we'd go out to dinner, he'd take 15 minutes to figure out what he wanted, and then when they brought the food, he'd reach across and grab a forkful of mine.  No asking or anything!  I told him it was a good way to be stabbed with a fork.  He said I was selfish.  I said if he wanted what I had, why didn't he order it?  I didn't want any of his.  I don't mind sharing appetizers; that's what they're for.  Besides, they usually give you little plates to put your portion on.  My son's wife always wants a taste of his dinner, and when he gives it to her, she wrinkles her nose and doesn't like it.  Well, that was a waste!  He has solved the problem.  When they go out, instead of ordering two dinners, he orders 3 different appetizer platters, and they just share those.  And I don't care if we "swap spit".  I still don't share my drinks.  I know it's not logical, but it just seems yucky to me.
