Once in West Texas, my husband, three children and I were on a trip, and in the middle of nowhere, our gas tank sprung a leak on a Sunday.  Before long we came across a gas station/garage and pulled in. My husband got out and went in to talk to the owner who was there alone and was watching a Dallas Cowboys football game.  My husband explained the problem and the man said he would look at it as soon as the game was over and that he would be closing at 5:00.  It was about 4:30 at the time.  He gave my husband a bucket to catch the gas in that was leaking out.  The game was over in about 20 more minutes and the man came out to the car and said well, it's too close to closing time for me to do anything now but you are welcome to stay here in your car overnight.  I'll be back at about 7:00 in the morning.  Thankfully we were in a station wagon and had snacks with us.  The old man left the restroom open for us to use. The next morning after a restless and hungry night, the old man showed up and took off the gas tank which had to dry out (which took a while) before he could weld it and put it back on the car and away we went to drive about 40 more miles before we came to a little town where we could get something to eat. By then it was between 10:00 & 11:00. I will have to say that my kids behaved better than I did over the incident.

New Hampshire; the place was pretty but very small, no middle class just rich people & minimum wage workers (my ex and I), and I was still married to my ex.

When I first moved to this area I had to live with my son and his wife for a few months till I sold my house and bought one here. I love my son, but his wife can be a bi**h from hell. I was so miserable because of her attitude. I bought all the groceries and I worked at night so everyday before I left for work I had the house clean and their dinner cooked. She would gripe about that but when I moved out she thought I should come over every day and clean and cook and keep her son.  My son didn't know how she talked to me when he wasn't around. I still can't stand being around her.

It wasn't a long time, but long enough. We were in our camper, heading from the low desert up a long and winding road called the Banner Grade to a state park to meet my husband's daughter and family for a weekend camp out when the transmission failed. Still had reverse, so was lucky to be able to back into a level spot along side the road. My husband was able to hitch a ride to the town at the top of the hill to get a tow truck for us. It was getting dark and I had to stay behind in the camper with our old blind dog for what seemed forever. I did have a loaded .38 just in case, but the wrecker arrived in a few hours and towed us out of there to a gas station in town, where we stayed for the weekend. I was a nice weekend, we got to explore the town, and didn't have to camp with the family, though we did have to ride home with them. He caught a ride back down a week later to retrieve the camper with it's rebuilt transmission.

Last year in the heat of the summer we were having AC problems in the car.  That's a story for another day.  We were on this winding narrow country road, which never had much traffic to suddenly run into traffic stopped dead.  No traffic at all on the other side, then a few cars, then nothing and we are inching along.  To amuse ourselves we had the gps on.  We could see when traffic on the other side moved and our side inching along.  Well, 2.5 hours later all of of suddden both sides are moving.  Seems there was this huge piece of equipment that they needed for where they are building a four lane road.  When the other side stopped it was because the turns made it necessary to swing equpment.  Longest ride.  Normally 45 minutes.  Total time over 3 hours.
