Which is more important, a great car or a great house? Why?

Well, a car is important but as long as it's reliable then I'd rather have the house be great. And a house doesn't have to be big or fancy for it to be great for me; just big enough and in a good location (which doesn't have to be fancy either, just pleasant & halfway decent neighbors).

I have a house that's warm in the winter and pretty comfortable in the summer, sans A/C...keeps the rain and snow out, and a car that's old, but reliable, so what's not to like? Anything else is window dressing or an ego thing.

If I did not have either, I would start with a reliable car. It's not only cheaper to own and operate, but in a pinch, I could sleep in a car, but I couldn't get a job and drive a house to work.
