TBD on Ning

On Feburaray 21st, 2003--approximately 15 miles from where I live--there was a now infamous fire that destroyed a nightclub, (The Station--In West Warwick, RI). The cause of the fire was the group taht played that night, White Heat--or something like that, thought it would be real special to have a pyrotechnical show INSIDE OF THE CLUB. The result of the fire was 100 people dead, and nearly 200 people left injured--some permanently paralyzed. You would think that after an incident like that--the worl d would learn a lesson about the perils of playing with fire---ESPECIALLY WITHIN A CLOSED CONFINED, OVERCROWDED PLACE!

Well--U would think so. Unfortunately--some folks in Russia declined to take a life changing lesson to heart!

It is amazing how having a bunch of people combined thiewr total lack of common sense--can affet so many people--and now a country--as a whole.

Unbelievable!

Heart, I think we had a discussion on the old TBD about personal safety in public places, because we only have ourselves to look out for #1 and our loved ones...... Some of the things we came up with are, find out where all the exits are and the most clear path to them, avoid overcrowded rooms and events, sit with your back to the wall so you can see the crazies before they see you, and of course pay attention to obvious and potential danger like "pyrotechnics" inside a building, duh ...... Then there is the old stand by, be completely oblivious to your surroundings, and when the time comes PANIC ............
When I traveled to Europe more often, I noticed that many pubs have night clubs in the basements. There is one stairway in and that's it. These places are totally packed at night so if something goes wrong, well, there will be problems.
That was Great White Band. Ty Longley was the only band member to die in the fire, he played lead guitar. Our son and Ty were good friends in high school. Kittycat and I were friends with his mom and dad before they divorced. Our community was very distraught after news of this fire. I found one of their videos on youtube but was unable to post it here. I didn't recognize the lead guitarist as being Ty, it may have been, I don't know when the video was made. I remember Ty as being slight in stature with long, brown hair.

I do believe this may be Ty in this one I found. The one with brown hair and no hat.

I never thought to look up the band on Youtube.
