Deep Pitching Makes Red Sox the Team to Beat

OK, sports fans -- It's a Red Sox Nation! I realize we're only half through the season -- and as (an almost) lifelong Red Sox fan, I've seen our Sawx get close and then.....well, we've all heard the stories. I've learned not to count chickens (ever) and I wait til I see my fellow loyal fans genuflecting and crying in the rain in the stands at Fenway.

BUT

what the heck? Here's an uplifting news story (unless you're a Wankees fan) -

So-Called "Natural" Foods Aren't Always Organic

There's still much confusion regarding foods that are "natural" versus foods that are "organic".

Certified organic food products are regulated by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and are produced by farmers and manufacturers under a strict set of rules. But the agency defines the term "natural" only for meat and poultry. In the rest of the food industry, the meaning is largely up to the producer.

Here's the story, including information from some of the top food producers… Continue

California Bill AB1401: Transition to Organics Act 2009

Bill Summary:

The Organic Consumers Association favors the conversion of American agriculture to at least 30% organic by the year 2015, including major reforms in agricultural subsidies and appropriations to help family farmers make the transition to organic, develop local and regional markets, and adopt renewable energy practices. We know that California farmers who wish to transition from conventional farming to certified organic farming face a number of challenges. In particular, the… Continue

New Study Reveals Major Health Problems Linked to Genetically Engineered Foods

QUOTE OF THE WEEK

"We demand the systematic publication of the results of these tests, which we could only obtain on a case by case basis by taking legal action... It [the study] brings to light a significant underestimation of the initial signs of diseases like cancer and diseases of the hormonal, immune, nervous and reproductive systems, among others... The health crises may be more important than the international financial crisis because of the lack of transparency of the…

FDA Approves New Blood Thinner

Late Friday, the FDA announced that they were approving a new drug -- Effient, Eli Lilly's new blood thinner -- even though this drug comes with extremely dangerous and potentially deadly risks.

The drug is so dangerous that the FDA has technically approved it only for specific patients, people getting angioplasty. Here's the catch: In the study the approval was based on, patients taking Effient faced "a greater risk of significant, sometimes fatal bleeding" when compared to… Continue

Oppose ObamaCare!

Did you know that President Obama and Senator Ted Kennedy are rushing a massive socialized healthcare plan through Congress -- with a final vote expected before August!

This Obama-Kennedy healthcare plan imposes $1.5 trillion in new taxes and forces Americans to “hand over” their health care decisions to politicians and bureaucrats. This nationalization of our health care system will cripple businesses and cause a massive increase in government control over our lives.

Is… Continue

Pharmaceutical Education: Who's Responsible? Who's Accountable?

Drug education is a deep and seemingly unexplored topic. No, we're not talking about Nancy Reagan's "Just Say No" program. We're talking about responsible pharmaceutical education. We're not here to point a finger or cast blame, but we are realistic in reviewing how our society arrived in a place where we have been faced with many unnecessary and irresponsible pharmaceutical-related tragedies.

Many people know more about their TV's, iPods and computers than their… Continue

New Bill HR2749 Gives FDA Unheard-of Power over Small Farmers, Food and Supplement Producers

The Food Safety Enhancement Act of 2009 (FSEA) is a poorly written bill, now before the US House of Representatives. Known as the Waxman-Dingell bill, it really isn't much about food safety at all. Previous food safety issues in the news were centered around large agri-corporations, but this bill places its harshest burdens on small food and supplement producers. New language is introduced along with criminal and civil penalties, including up to 10 years of jail time and fines up to $100,000… Continue
