A guid New Year tae ane and a’, an mony may ye see!
HAPPY HOGMANAY!
Lang may yer lum reek! (Long may your chimney smoke.) It's a tradition in Scotland to take, among other items, a piece of coal with you when visiting friends and family on New Year's Eve. The coal is placed on the fire as a wish for the hosts’long life, prosperity, warmth, and good cheer.
I have no coal, so here’s a wee dram of Scotch for its warming effect, and to convey the same wishes.
May 2014 bring you, Carol, everything your heart desires.
Greetings from not-so-sunny CA where it is overcast and we are holding our breath and praying for rain. This is the third year of a drought and when you only get 12-13 inches of rain a year, this means trouble.
Are you on another trip--galloping through 40 shades of green in Ireland, or doing half passes on a dressage holiday in Germany, or, perhaps, a horseback Mayan adventure in Belize? Ohhhhhhhhhhhh, I can dream, can't I? :>)
Anyway, I hope whatever you're up to you're having fun and all is well! XOXOXOX
That sounds like good progress with Max. Getting a few steps of true half-pass during your first session on it is wonderful, especially on a horse who has had many riders. Max has turned out to be a fairly willing fellow, despite being lazy. I'd say move to Training level if your trainer thinks you're both ready.
That was a great tip on the Facebook group. Thanks! I was on Facebook long ago but had privacy, and other, issues, so I left. I might think about making up an identity and going back for that group! I miss horses and horse people so much.
Sorry to hear about the cancellations, Carol. I hope September will be less hot, humid, and rainy than August has been!
Yup, so far I'm staying cool enough.
Actually, I think a few people have also joined the singles group. I don't know if anyone has posted. There seems to be a few new or returning people drifting in lately. I see you posted a comment in your group. Keep it up, when you have time, to see if we can get the ball rolling. It would be nice to see some life returning to TBD.
Glad to hear you're home safely and had a good time, Carol!
What was your favorite sight/activity ashore?
I SO emphasize with your seasick experience. I've had enough horrific experiences with seasickness (like spending a whole cruise prone and only eating crackers--hahaha) that I've realized life at sea is not for me. Too bad because it's such an easy way to travel.
Smart solution for a quick but effective costume, btw!
Sounds like fun--except for the mal de mer, of course! Music is always wonderful, so I'm glad you had many listening choices. Halifax and its grass-roots feeling politics was charming a zillion years ago when I was last there. And a man in a kilt anywhere for any reason is a treat. My Draughn in a kilt would make your brain blow up. Hahaha!!! ツ
I had lots of fun as a teenager, having my first love affair, taking trips up the coast to Nova Scotia in an MG MIdget. Hahaha! That little car was a death trap, but boy was it a blast zooming along with the top down. Lots of tiny towns that rolled the carpets up by 5 each afternoon, but when you're young and in love everything is exciting. We spent a few nights in a cabin so tiny that we had to go out the door by leaping over the end of the bed. Wheeeeeeeeee!!
Yup, we'll have to see what next year brings. I wish next year were 1970.
I just reread my note from November 2 and, OMG, it's EMPATHIZE not EMPHASIZE!!!!!
I find that particular phenomenon that's been happening as I'm getting ancient ツ VERY disturbing. I think I'm writing one word and it turns out I'm writing another! More disturbing still is that I don't catch it right away, if ever!!!
I'm so sorry about Jelly Bean, Carol. Death, especially sudden death, is such a tragedy and so emotionally painful to those left behind. I hope Jelly Bean awoke to the most beautiful, endless pastures filled with sunshine and the sweetest grass imaginable, no work, all play, and friends to run with like the wind.
I'm glad Maxx is fit enough to be back in play and that your lesson was good. It's always such a rewarding feeling when things click. Hopefully, Team Machulski is back!
Geez, I missed your birthday! Sorry! (I need to remember to check the Main Page.ツ) Anyway, HAPPY (belated) BIRTHDAY, CAROL!!!!! I hope it was a great day!
While I'm sorry to hear that your trainer is going through all that pain, and that it will put off your work with her, you seem to have a good plan to keep riding and working on deficits. With your determination to improve, Carol, I know it will happen!
You must be looking forward to cooler riding days. Until, of course, it gets FRIGID out there. I remember so well, after hours of riding, dismounting in a hurry on blacktop, or some such, and hitting that frozen ground with my frozen, booted feet. Yeow! Haha! Ahhh, the joys and pains of dressage. ツ
