I am returning to school to finish one degree and start another. I love dogs and have two "canine children". I am an Arizona "native" (not born there but raised there). I enjoy collegiate sports and love to hike in the Smokies (Mountains). I also like reading biographies of little-known people, experiencing new challenges (like being an "older" student), working out at the gym on campus and taking long walks with my dogs.
Hi Zickbee, I've been there, where you are and I have been on the other side as well. My children are a raised, or so to speak. Most call me frequently and one still calls me everyday. She is at a university herself. I'm at another because I work there and have for many years. I continue to take classes when I have a chance. I was a late starter for the university life, because everything kept getting in the way, until I started working for one. I have a chocolate lab who has become my best friend. You know dogs, they will listen to everything you have to say and can even sense when you are feeling a little down. Well, that is enough about me and I just wanted to say I'm wishing that things continue to get better for you.
I hear you. School and learning is wasted on some of the young as that is exactly the way it is for me. My major is Fine Arts, but I have taken law, education, and some extra creative writing and literature courses. At home I am even worse as I study gardening, gourmet cooking, leather work, cordswaining (bootmaking), carpentry, photography, astronomy, wine, beer, cheese making. I guess my greatest joys are reading and writing and these alone have taken me down roads I would otherwise not taken. If their is a downside, it is that their is not enough hours in the day for learning.
November the 18th is the 10-year anniversary of the deadly Aggie bonfire that left 12 students dead.
Texas A&M students traditionally constructed a 59-foot tower of logs for the school's annual bonfire. It was a celebration of the school's big football game against their arch-rival, the University of Texas Longhorns.
On November 18, 1999, the tower was poorly constructed. It collapsed, killing a dozen students.
Cold enough to freeze and bust my pipes inside the north wall of farm house. Had fountain of water coming out north wall of house this morning. 2 inches of ice in cow trough this morning. Wearing 4 hats today rancher/plumber/carpender/insulator.
Sorry, I must have slept thru it like the great earthquake of 1979. While in Mexico City in 1979 with 43 other Aggies I slept thru the earthquake. My sincere apologies, I need to pay more attention to women.
