Cat Spring Agricultural Society's 156th annual June Fest is Sunday! The society is Texas' oldest agricultural society, started June 7,1856 by 40 charter members for the purpose of agricultural education.
On Sunday, I had sausage, kraut, tators and green beans at the oldest Brethren Church in North America. The Wesley Brethren Church is the "Mother Church" of all the Brethren Churches in Texas. The 1866 church, cost $938, is one of the 12 painted churches located in central Texas.

USS Texas, the ship that fought in World Wars I and II and has served since 1948 as a memorial and museum to those who sacrificed their lives has a leak that has been pouring in as much as 1000 gallons a minute.
Texas A&M lands major federal prize to become a vaccine mecca
The Texas A&M System has won a huge federal contract to become one of the nation’s major hubs of vaccine production and bioterror preparedness.
Over an expected lifetime of 25 years the federal contract to create a Center for Innovation in Advanced Development and Manufacturing is likely worth $1.5 to $2 billion.
“It’s the biggest federal grant to come to Texas since NASA, quite frankly,” Texas A&M University System Chancellor John Sharp said.
“I think that we had a lot of people helping from the Democratic side as well as from the Republican side. I think you have to give the Obama Administration credit. They put this on the fence. Its always been long considered in DC, defense is sort of off the red and blue state charts and I think that happened here. This is a war and its going to involve the survival of 80 or 90 million people. They played it right straight down the middle and gave it to the people who were best qualified, even if its from a state and university that’s not considered very democratic. They are to be congratulated, you have to hand it to them. This would not have happened without Rick Perry and Barack Obama.”
“We certainly hope the President will come down here, I would love for him to see it.”
Texas A&M University System Chancellor John Sharp in referance to Texas A&M University winning a contract worth close to $2 billion to create a center on campus to research and manufacture vaccines to protect the nation against a health crisis or bio-terrorism attack.
Dead guy suspect shot multiple people at an apartment complex near my office today. Apartment security guard was shot, then maintence man was shot. Then suppect grazed with bullet another man in parking lot in failed car jacking. Thencar jacked a woman's Trailblazer at gunpoint. He fled and exchange gunfire with police and rammed into patrol cars. He also shot at firetruck and ambulance and rammed a SUV which two of the motorists were taken to hospital. Several other were also injured and also taken to hospital.
Police say suspect was immediately handcuffed after crashing into other vehicles. The suspect appeared to have one bullet wound, and paramedics pronounced him dead on the scene.
I had hard time opening city web page, every link crashed on my wifi connection before opening. I downloaded map 4 times on .pdf and would not open. So I used GPS directions which said to exit Allen Parkway off I-45 but that exit was closed and next exit was Victoria. Which took me to Alabama, avoided the train on Main. Then went to Dallas, crossed Brazos and Washingtion and ended up in Lubbock parking lot and was instructed to park in handicap parking space and charged 3 times the normal day rate.
Was overcrowed festival, closest I could get to the stage was over 1000 feet away on street. Could not see or hear Sara Evans or Billy Currington due to crowd loud talking. Took 30 minutes to buy a 3 dollar bottle of water, wanted to get some food but looked like hour wait to get food. I gave up after start of Billy Currington show and took 45 minutes to exit festival. I went home and watch the firework show on TV.
Next year this country boy is going back the Kenney Ag Society BBQ. Lines shorter, parking is free, beer and water is 2/3 cheaper and they have BBQ mutton.
23rd Annual Hempstead Watermelon Festival on Saturday, July 21, 2012!!!
