Ever Get Tired Of Being The Artsy Black Sheep?

Man, I think if I hear another relative describe me as very creative, I will puke, as the kiddies say. They might as well say, "You know she's an Artist" and roll their eyes..

No! I totally embrace my inner artsy black sheep! I can get away with a lot having that image. I can have weird hair and still manage to be a high school administrator, I can wear funky glasses, and people totally understand when I wear my Converse chucks with a dress. I cannot separate my personal style and inner voice from being artsy. Artist is part of who I am at my core. I have always been I guess, quirky in my mannerisms and way of expressing myself through speech, action, writing and dress, so it helps a lot when others can appreciate my natural idiosyncracies by placing me in the Artsy Black Sheep category! To many people, there is a fine line sometimes between being artsy and just being weird. When you are artsy, you are confident in your art and your expression so when it shines thru on the outside, you can be kinda cool. When you are self-conscious about yourself both artisitically and expressively, then you can seem kinda dorky.

    Phuk 'em all anyway.

Do they say it condescendingly? Though it's created more work for me at times, being able to draw and paint well has gotten me out of what could have been real messes. Quite a useful skill. So I march to the beat of a different drummer; I accept that. I think you are in a group where all of us do that- no black sheep here.

Yes, and then I tried being a normal person and it almost destroyed me.
I compromised by being an eccentric who puts his rants, raves and pearls of wisdom down on paper while playing with his two cats in his low-rent apartment in San Jose.
I don't know your age but as you reach blessed maturity you realize it really doesn't matter what anyone else thinks unless they are paying your bills, stimulating your body and/or mind and/or spirit or making you a really good cup of coffee!
        Cheers, Artista!
