What the heck is Windows 8, anyway???

If you have a Windows PC, a Mac, or a Chromebook (I'm looking at you, Google!) then you can always learn new tricks!  Internet problems?  Router not working? Can't print for nuthin'?  Need help on software?  Is Windows 7 better than XP?  Is Linux a viable alternative?

When to use "Discussion" vs. "Comment"

Hey everyone, if you are posting here for advice, or with a problem, you should post it in the Discussion Forum so members can reply.  The Comments Wall section is for "quick hit" types of commentary or perhaps a YouTube link that's a one-off type of thing.

Additionally, the Discussion Forum is the place for asking for advice or opinions on PC vs. Mac, or Laptop vs. Desktop, or any topic that's looking for feedback.

The Comments Wall is really not meant for "conversations", where ideas and/or solutions can be worked out by several members.

Anybody in the group use Amazon Prime?  I'm thinking about it, mainly for the streaming video & hardcopy books & wondering if it's worth it.

Ibought a computer a couple weeks ago for 186 dollars  that had windows 7 32 bit . They had mostly windows 7 32 and 64 bit . Some as low as 130 dollars up . Mine came with 4 gig of ram . Took my windows 8.1 computer and stuck it in za corner for now .  Happy with windows 7 . Plenty of ram for my purposes .

This grp seems to have gotten kinda quiet, just a few posting anymore.  Is Pete still running it?  I hope he's ok.

windows 7 is still available as a current os until halloween. that means you get a legal copy of the operating system and can install it download updates etc until they decide not to support 7 which could be about 2025 or so. check with your techie. oh and if you have bought windows 8 pro, supposedly you can roll it back to 7.

If you can find a good computer tech or service shop, my tech told me that if I needed a new comp., he could either find me 1 that's still Win7 or change a new one from 8 to 7, no problem he said.

windows 8 is a whole different build and structure than 7. if you are curious the best thing to do is drop by a computer store and test drive a floor model and see if you like it.
