Kathy “Super Z” Zwibelman transitioned peacefully from her body today, surrounded by her family and the caring hospice team. We were full of all the love and support everyone has given.
She had a strong support team with her throughout the difficult journey since her diagnosis of ovarian cancer in 2020. While the pandemic was raging, we somehow navigated through it all to fight the cancer with the best treatments doctors could offer.
It has been challenging for her and the team through the hours of treatments at hospitals, but we made the best of it. For instance, dressing up with different costumed themed hats and accessories to amuse ourselves and others (mostly ourselves). We had many laughs and it brought us closer to Kathy. It was a conversation starter with other patients and brought some joy to the wonderful heroic health care workers who were dealing with the heavy burdens of the pandemic.
Her sense of humor, an iron will that could break stone, eagerness to learn and explore “the real Florida”, and her willingness to share experiences good and bad, were all immune to the cancer and all the treatments. It took her body, but did not touch her mind, spirit and soul.
Cancer was the cause of her body’s death but it did not define her in life. We will remember her legacy by all the lives she inspired as a teacher, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, biker chick and friend. We will miss you Mom, Ms. Super Z, Kathy of many hats, but never forget. Talk to you soon.
In lieu of flowers or other gifts, please donate to https://www.donorschoose.org which supports classrooms, teachers and students.
Celebration of life to be planned in the near future. Wear your favorite Florida inspired T-shirt (Disney counts. Anna asked, Kathy said yes). Date TBD.
