With the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, Mayor Bloomberg of New York City has canceled Halloween. This way trick-or-treaters won't be meandering around in darkness or avoiding fallen trees and other hazardous conditions from the hurricane. While the safety of our children and parade participants is important and while most people support his decision , he has attracted the wrath of one devilish fellow, namely Satan. You don't piss off the devil. How the Grinch stole Christmas is one thing. How the mayor canceled Halloween is quite another story.

It seems the official residence of our ghoulish mayor, Gracie Mansion is now swarming with poltergeists and Mayor Bloomberg is afraid to sleep there. He's called in a group of experts including psychic medium John Edward to rid his home of the ghostly entities in what he calls Operation Apparitions. Kitchen Nightmares has become a reality for the mayor.

"No Halloween.! !! This is unthinkable" said Shelly Weiss, the great grand daughter of magician Harry Houdini. Even the friendly ghost, Casper, is appalled of the mayor's decision and plans to start his own crusade of malevolent hauntings.

Department stores, costume shops, small businesses that rely on Halloween sales, and places like Party City are not in very good spirits with Halloween being canceled. Frankenstein, Dracula, the Wolfman, and Lindsay Lohan could not be reached for comment regarding Halloween. The Flash is disappointed that the NYC Marathon was canceled and now nobody will be wearing his superhero outfit. No one and no thing is happy over these tough decisions. Even the pumpkins are not putting on their happy grins.

The sales and marketing company I work for encourages employees to do their civic duties.I work on a retail merchandising team. But when I was selected to serve as grand juror in Queens,NY for 2 days a week for 6 months was a bit much for my company and me. I actually had to sit on two cases the same day I foolishly let myself get sworn in. My team of co-workers would suffer during my absence and I would have no continuity in my projects at work. Plus the jurors had no parking provided for them and I'd be parking about a mile away in the winter if I could find a legal spot in a residential area. I knew I had to get out of this jury duty commitment and if I didn't go,I'd be in contempt of court. Yikes.!!!
The next day I went back to the courthouse and found a court officer who took me to see the judge. The judge did not want to "entertain"me,I was told. I didn't want to be entertained either.I just wanted to be unsworn .. I was told I had to write a letter explaining why it would be hard for me to be a grand juror, plus any supporting documents.
I was advised by a cousin who is a judge and lawyer that I would need a local councilman or government official to help get me off jury duty since I was sworn in. I could not get anyone to help. I went to my job the next day and my team coordinator wrote a letter in my behalf explaining how an absence of 2 days a week would be a burden on my co-workers since we have no support staff.
I had one more hope too that I thought might help. I went to see our family doctor telling him how I was nervous and could not sleep do to worrying about missing so much work...and pay. He wrote a letter stating that my blood pressure was high,(which it was),that I was pacing the floor at night, that I was extremely anxious, and he was prescribing Xanax for me and any type of jury duty should be postponed.
Armed with my arsenal of letters, I went back to the courthouse to see the judge the next day. The court officer took me to the courtroom where I stood in the back while the judge examined my papers.occasionally staring at me with an evil eye. I felt like I was on trial. I didn't do anything wrong. ..After a few moments, the court officer said I was no longer a grand juror. The judge apparently saw I was on medication, figured I was NUTS,and who needs another crazy person serving on a grand jury.
I was back at work the next day glad this nightmarish quagmire was over. But to think about the fact, that anyone can be forced to sit and listen to testimonies of some court case on the same day they are called in without any other notice seems absurd to me. There are plenty of people who are eager to participate in the judicial process. I'm all for it. Let them. Anyway, I won't be called for at least seven years as my one day of sitting in court just wanting to leave for the full day met my civic requirements.
SUPERMARKET MADNESStag:teebeedee.ning.com,2012-12-29:1991841:Topic:14300192012-12-29T14:57:25.466ZBaiahttps://teebeedee.ning.com/profile/JaniceTakashima

Who are these people that place products where you can't find them or reach them? Even Dora the Explorer would have trouble finding what she was looking for.
I'll take the blame. I work for a national sales and marketing company and that's what I do. Move items, move shelving,.and often my work is really unnecessary, perfunctory, and repetitive. The work gets physical and dirty.I clean also. No..I don't do windows. I'll move corn flakes from the bottom to the top shelf but it's not a Snap, Crackle, Pop job. And it's not my job to rotate stock. The morons who stock the shelves should do that. If there's a box of Wheaties with Johnny Weismuller on the cover,it just might be a tad old. Check the date...if you can find it. The manufacturers make it hard or impossible to read dates. Don't blame me. I get dirty looks from customers and store personnel to as I do my insidious work.
But honestly folks, does a customer care whether Cocoa Puffs or Fruit Loops start the aisle? I doubt it. Is a jar of mayonnaise going to sell better in aisle 7 than aisle 8? Maybe..if there's a male stripper in aisle 7 ..otherwise,who cares what aisle it's in. !!! Don't blame me if your shopping cart knocks over an egregiously placed stack of bottled pickles. I didn't put them there. It's not my idea to have you navigate through obstacle courses and gauntlets. I understand your frustration and sympathize with you. I don't make the idiotic planograms we use and I don't make the plans to have both sides of an aisle worked on simultaneously. I agree. Poor planning.
If your Vermont maple syrup is really corn syrup from New Jersey, don't blame me. You want the real thing? Read the label or go tap a tree. It's not my job to pry frozen vegetables from the freezer because they are full of ice. Get an ice pick. I'm not Admiral Byrds Eye.
Folks, it's time to WISE up. I don't work for Uncle Ben,Aunt Millie,Aunt Jemima or Mrs. Paul. I'm not the Man from Glad. I just move things. Somebody's gotta do it. No WONDER bread is so hard to find. If you can't find what you are looking for, don't bother to ask a store employee or the manager. They have no clue what I am doing there .
Voila Allahtag:teebeedee.ning.com,2010-07-12:1991841:Topic:10184742010-07-12T17:19:38.257ZBaiahttps://teebeedee.ning.com/profile/JaniceTakashima

http://www.afn.org/~dks/race/wright.html

Science has put forward many different racial models, the most enduring being the division of humanity into three broad groupings: the Mongoloid, the Negroid, and the Caucasoid. An influential paper by Masatoshi Nei and Arun K. Roychoudhury, entitled "Gene Differences between Caucasian, Negro, and Japanese Populations," which appeared in Science, in 1972, found that the genetic variation among individuals from these racial groups was only slightly greater than the variation within the groups. In 1965, the anthropologist Stanley Garn proposed hundreds, even thousands, of racial groups, which he saw as gene clusters separated by geography or culture, some with only minor variations between them. The paleontologist Stephen Jay Gould, for one, has proposed doing away with all racial classifications and identifying people by clines-regional divisions that are used to account for the diversity of snails and of songbirds, among many other species. In this Gould follows the anthropologist Ashley Montagu, who waged a lifelong campaign to rid science of the term "race" altogether and never used it except in quotation marks. Montagu would have substituted the term "ethnic group," which he believed carried less odious baggage.

Race, in the common understanding, draws upon differences not only of skin color and physical attributes but also of language, nationality, and religion. At times, we have counted as "races" different national groups, such as Mexicans and Filipinos. Some Asian Indians were counted as members of a "Hindu" race in the censuses tom 1920 to 1940; then they became white for three decades. Racial categories are often used as ethnic intensifiers, with the aim of justifying the exploitation of one group by another. One can trace the ominous example of Jews in prewar Germany, who were counted as "Israelites," a religious group, until the Nazis came to power and turned them into a race. Mixtures of first- and second-degree Jewishness were distinguished, much as quadroons and octoroons had been in the United States. In fact, the Nazi experience ultimately caused a widespread reexamination of the idea of race.
