I can't wait. Misery loves company, I think I'll bake some cookies, or maybe some special brownies for all the company!! Naw, I'll be as selfish as they are now...all those patriotic Americans who think they're special and so safe.
There's plenty of room. Just adjust. You'll be fine. When the insurance co have ripped off the whiners long enough, deinied enough for you to lose your insurance or cause a loved one to die, just adjust. When your quality of life sucks, it's ok. Just remember your own words and I'm sure those will console you.
When you lose your medicare because nothing was done to reform healthcare and medicare goes broke, don't worry. It's ok. You'll be considered undeserving just like people like me, so it's ok.
Oh, and don't expect sympathy from your buddies who will be able to afford to get care, cuz they won't care. They'll just throw your own words right back at you.

In the group "Moosie's Crossing" under the discussion "LQQKIE LU" I posted pics of my great nephews who are now ages 13 and 9. They received new hearts 2 years ago. A heart became available for the youngest in June '07 and one month later a heart became available for his brother. When they consulted with the head surgeon at the time they both went on the list, the doctor sent the 2 boys to the waitng room, Matthew, whose IQ is off the charts, told the doc he could handle anything he had to say, Matthew said he'd been waiting to die his whole life. Doc said I need you to go to the waiting room to watch your brother. In the waiting room, they sat by a man from Great Britain, this man told Matthew that if he lived in Great Britain he wouldn't be getting a heart.

This is all hearsay, but I believe it to be true. We're a big family, and we're beyond delighted to have these boys around.

See, I think you have this backwards. I think it's the folks who are pushing for this nationalized health care that are selfish. Most people have health care and the few who don't want the government to take over which will eventually raise the price and reduce the care for everyone. When you say "misery loves company" - that is correct. The ones who don't have the insurance want everyone to suffer with them. The folks who are so desperate for this aren't thinking about what's good for the majority (who have health care), they are thinking about themselves.

I think this ties in nicely with Obama's promise to "level the playing field." I've never heard him say that he has any ideas about how to help poor people gain wealth. His idea of "levelling" is to bring down the middle class and rich so they are suffering just as much as the poor.

And if anyone tries to accuse me of being some sort of rich, elitist, forget it. I've completely depleted my savings after losing my good job three years ago and have had periods of not being insured myself.

I used to care, I did. I now see not just the rudeness, I can handle rude, but the HATRED of so many "Americans" that hate us uninsured, underinsured, and I don't care what happens to these people anymore than they care for me.
They look down their noses, no they're not rich, but they think they're better than me and yet, what happened to me and others like me, too clueless to know it can happen to them.
I remember when my middle daughter was in the hospital(yes, we had insurance) when she was about a yr old. In the next room, there was a little girl, about 9yrs old. She had heart problems, had to have a second surgery. Her dad was in the waiting room, talking to someone about how his insurance, which he had gotten thru work, just dropped his daughter.
People have been getting screwed for years.
If it takes everyone falling on their asses to wake them up, so be it.
BTW, we the ones who are desperate are thinnking about what's good for the majority, since we are FAST becoming the majority. Do you think I want to be uninsured??? Did you think I wanted my insurance to screw me, rob me, take my money, for months I thought I was covered, they made sure they got my money, delayed letting me or the dr's know, then let me know, when I was very, very sick.
I don't care about people getting medicare as the last admin. made sure I won't get that either. So yes, I now have the repukes attitude, t.s. to all those who have medicare who don't give a sh*t about me. Right back at them!!

The people who have their health insurance either through Medicare, the VA, or their employer really, for the most part, don't care about the less fortunate who have no health coverage. The puzzle for me is that the majority of people who are demonizing any health care change call themselves "Compassionate Conservatives", or at least belong to that political party. Somehow that really does not fit when the large pharmaceutical and insurance companies are walking away with huge profits from the present system. Of course those "Compassionate Conservatives" appear to me to be a lot more compassionate toward the rich than they are toward the poor and middle class.

Clinics can only do so much. You cannot get to see a specialist, well you may get a consultation..alot of good that does.
You are blind beyond words. We had a control freak in for 8 yrs. LOL, who are you talking to...why do you ASSume that you tithe or pay more taxes SO much than others that don't agree with you.

So I guess you believe it is fine that people can just find free health clinics or go to emergency rooms for their health care. That says a lot about your thinking. But you are definitely in a group of people who feel the same as you do. Hope you never find yourself in their situation some day where that will be YOUR health care alternative.

While not about health insurance specifically, it highlights the "criminality of being extremely poor." So it's like we've gone back to the days of debtor prisons almost. Personally, I'd like to see these people get health insurance and housing, etc. Even if it means I have to pay a few hundred dollars more a year in taxes. Again, I believe it will cost us less in the long run to have a true safety net for those in deep trouble.

And the people who have Medicare, which is national health care to some extent, would scream bloody murder if it was taken away from them. These are likely the same people who go to those town hall meetings with talking points from organizations like Freedom Works and so on.

I also like your idea of sending all your medical bills to your elected officials. I think that might be a great movement to start.

The fact is the Conservatives could care less about what happens to you. They care a lot more about the bottom line of the large corporations. You notice they also do not think the government should get involved in the exorbitant salaries and bonuses the CEO's get. They say, let the free market run it's course. GW did a good job of allowing most anything to happen in the financial markets and we see where that took us. I suspect their response to you would be that you should not be a single mom. You are irresponsible and therefore your health care is not their problem. That is the mentality of the people who are fighting health care reform with all the fear, lies, and anger.

46 million Americans are uninsured and that number is growing fast as COBRA runs out or as businesses decide they can't pay for their employees health insurance anymore. Those who have private insurance think they have good coverage until they get really sick. Then all those years of paying sky high premiums will be flushed down the tubes because the insurance companies will decide that they won't provide coverage for these people who are happy with their coverage. The new legislation also calls for insurance companies to drop the "pre-existing condition" bullshit so that Americans who want to buy private insurance can do so. There will be many options from which to choose.

Additionally, the current state of health coverage in America is crippling businesses that might otherwise flourish and hire more employees if national health insurance was in place. It would also help businesses become more competitive with the countries that have national health care. Requiring businesses to pay into the system does indeed level the playing field. It is good for business and good for unemployed and uninsured Americans as well as the rest of us.

I have no problems with seeing all Americans have access to good insurance. We are all in this together and we already pay for those people who don't have insurance. Every time an uninsured person checks into the emergency room or goes to the hospital for an extended stay - the rest of us pay for it via higher premiums. I do not mind paying more taxes to ensure that we are all covered. It will benefit us all in the long run.

I think it is selfish of people who don't want to see their fellow Americans have health insurance. The majority of Americans who declare bankruptcy do so because of medical bills - it's not because they are lazy. And those bankruptcies also come with a financial cost to all of us.

I'd also like to add that the rich to whom you are referring did not "do it all by themselves." At some point in time, they benefited from a system into which we all pay. These benefits include small business loans to help people prosper, tax breaks for hiring in their communities and so on. Once these businesses succeed and the owners become rich, I believe that they should then begin paying back into the system that helped them get where they are now.

We are all in this together, Wylde. Whether it's civil rights or national health insurance, we should all be standing together. In a perfect world, anyway. :)

I read an editorial in the Las Vegas Review Journal today by a guy promoting the Obama health plan. One thing he said really stuck out - we spend too much money on people in their last year of life. This was presented as simple economics. Part of bringing down the cost is to get rid of all these expensive tests, etc.

So, that's what I have to look forward to when I'm old? Someone deciding that I've lived enough and since I'm going to die anyway, they may as well not waste the money trying to keep me alive? Nice. Can't wait for this wonderful new world.
