The past couple of months was a crucible of hard knocks for me...house got egged, my car gets broken into at work, and a accident (car collision)...helping my daughter get ready for the prom--paying for initial college expenses, poor health,...etc.<br />

One thing I learned is "take it one day at a time..." maxim really works.<br />

Though for me, my hearing impairment has made me a stronger person because I had to work 2x as hard as most not to be left behind in a social or emotional sense. I spent most of my youth trying to hide it, but you'll be surprised how different people treat you if your handicap is apparent.<br />

I was the first grandchild in my mother's family and after I became two years old, the siblings and cousins started coming and I was on my own, so to speak. It might have been my temperament because my next younger sister was always clingy and the next one was rebellious. I was just independent and preferred to please, but didn't need constant approval. I think it started there.
