TBD on Ning

I am starting a new thread here mainly for purposes of my own catharsis. It is my intention, at least at this point, to make regular contributions. Of course, if anyone else has anything to add, they are more than welcome. If you have any input, please contribute.

Over a year ago I decided to deal head-on with my self-diagnosed adult attention disorder, (ADD). The inability to stay focused was becoming too stressful. I found myself sitting around watching the clock tick, yet I couldn’t keep “on task” with any project I started. Nothing was getting done and just starting something was becoming depressing.

The smart thing to do was probably to get professional help, so instead I decided to try to heal myself, at least as a first try. Cognitive therapy and pharmaceuticals (UGH) might be the approved way to go but I decided to try meditation first.

18 months and countless self-help books later, I still can’t bring myself to a regular, formal meditation program. But, along the way, I discovered informal mindfulness. Yes, I know it is the “Fad” right now. It is hard to navigate modern social trends without “tripping over” somebody extolling the benefits of mindfulness.

Let me add my voice to the chorus.

"Mindfulness is not about getting anywhere else. It's about being where you are and knowing it."  ~  Jon Kabat-Zinn

And being comfortable with the knowledge of it.

"Happiness is a choice, not a result. Nothing will make you happy until you choose to be happy." ~ Ralph Marston

Yes.

"Happiness starts with you. Not with your relationships, not with your job, not with your money, but with you."

"Distinguish between what's for us to decide and what is out of our hands. Some things are not up to us, yet we try to control everything, causing stress and anxiety. The simple mantra "It's not up to me," keeps me grounded, and I hope it helps you as well."  ~ Timber Hawkeye

"Our experience is always changing. Without awareness, mental patterns related to what we crave and what we fear make life harder. Thinking can be the problem, not the solution, when there’s nothing more to fix or to be done."  ~  Mindful Online

I like this one and I am getting there slowly.

"Each day is an opportunity to show up for yourself, the people you love, and the pursuits that matter to you. It's not about being "the best" or maxing out your stats. Just show up."   ~  Daily Zen

"If you catch the thought suggesting that you do the stupid thing, then you get a chance to avoid doing the stupid thing."  ~  Everyday Mindfulness

“Don't buy into the idea that you have to "find" yourself. This puts you into a state of lack, and causes you to judge yourself for not being good enough.” ~ Zach P. Alexander

“If your worldview is shaped solely by your experiences, it should not be hard to understand why someone else’s viewpoint is shaped by their own.” ~ Ayishat Akanbi
