A modesty bath tub?

think more along the lines of grim reality

coffin was my first guess but I thought that was too obvious.

ding ding ding....winner winner a chicken dinner....back in the day when childhood diseases were rampant, there was a big market for children's coffins. that is an upscale model that came with a glass window so you could see the child's face.

I saw an article about people in the Victorian Era taking photos of their dead, but the dead are posed as if they are alive. The article was accompanied by some of the photos.  Freaky!

oh, with the stands to hold them up and pose them....seems rather macabre but then it was a different time and a very different mindset or concept of the world. lots of 'this vale of toil and trouble' and lots of 'good christian guilt' to go round. wonder how much of that was the incidence of disease taking loved ones and the proximity of wars such as the civil war, the different european wars and then, shortly after victoria's death, world war 1. we were having a discussion about the vaccinations etc and the childhood mortality the other day. in the earlier days of the 1900s it was not all that unusual for a family to lose a third to half of their children to diseases that periodically swept thru communities. and in scotland, world war 1 cost the people of scotland fully 1/3 of the men of their communities.
