well i been workin on a couple of computers i have just sittin here cause the one i had been usin went tits up a couple of weeks ago .. i tried everything but mouth to mouth on that sucker and nothin doin .. it says my operatin system is missin ?? wtf?? how do you lose your whole operatin system ?? and while i do backup i'll admit i should do it more frequently .. i'm still not sure just exactly how much i lost . but i managed to revive another computer i had that the guy sold me counterfiet software .. not without a lot of piss, moanin, and complain along the way tho.. i had recovery disks from an old laptop that i thought i could use on here but it wouldn't let me load em .. took me all day but i figured out how to do it .. it wasn't easy .. i still don't have it 100% right but its workin .. sorta .. but i have another one i'm pretty sure i can do better with .. anyway .. this song comes to mind ..warren could always find a way to say it .. and this is from 1990 or so ..

There's a way to live that's right for us
Like Mayans in Manhattan and Los Angeles
I'm scaling up, I'm breaking down
And I'm doing lunch all over town

Networking, I'm user friendly
Networking, I install with ease
Data processed, truly basic
I will upload you, you can download me

It's a long hard road and a full hard drive
And a sector there where I feel alive
Every bit and every byte
Is written down once on the night

Networking, I'm user friendly
Networking, I install with ease
Data processed, truly basic
I will upload you, you can download me

There's a prayer each night that I always pray
Let the data guide me through every day
And every pulse and every code
Deliver me from the bypass mode

Networking, I'm user friendly
Networking, I install with ease
Data processed, truly basic
I will upload you, you can download me

My Windows 7 machine did that a couple months ago . It come up on screen and didn't load the system . I finally did a restore back to the day i got it . All has been fine since then . I have had a lot of hard drives do that . Computer store always said it was a bad hard drive . "?" I have a 8.1 windows also but don't use it . I will wait till Windows 10 comes out . That is if i live that long ...

I like to play with mine as well. I have a 7 year old HP and scavenged an extra 1GB Ram memory strip for it and put that in the other day bringing it up to 3 GB of RAM. Works well but not much difference. Computers that old have comparatively wimpy processors for modern uploading and downloading. I also have a 7 year hold Gateway laptop with only 1GB RAM but still putts along but slower and slower. A couple of months back I was in SAM's Club and saw a deal on a Dell Inspiron 15 Laptop with 4GB Ram but with the hated Windows 8.1 but I needed something newer and faster than the two 7 year old ones so I bought the new DELL laptop for only about $335 including sales tax (5.5% here in WI). Four times the RAM and $200 less than the Laptop I bought 7 years back. Works great I see why the Windows 8 is so hated. Not good if you are so used to the older versions. Both of my old ones were Vista (also hated by many). I happened to have a 2007 Home Office Software that I bought back then because I needed it for some purposes but I used up the three registrations it allows, two on my old clunkers and one on my sister's old clunker. Just for the heck of it I tried installing it on my new Windows 8 Dell and it took it okay and works fine although I have not tried all its uses.  Maybe the software being 2007 they don't track installations anymore.

Now my sister's also 7 year old clunker Dell Desktop will not allow her to log into her MSN email.  She could log in from mine okay. I tried one restore to an earlier date on hers but it failed but I will try another to an earlier date when I can. Sometimes after an update strange things happen and I did some cleanups, history deletions on hers with no luck so I am hoping a restore will let her use here email again. I could not talk her into buying a new computer but she is due. What did people waste their time on before computers?  Like Wayne I await the Windows 10. It seems Microsoft only gets it right every third version or so, and I swear no one there tests that stuff before they put it on the market.

Shadow what browser she using . I mainly use Firefox latest version. I have learned over the years to reset the browser ever now and and again when things start happing strange . Could be why she's having trouble login in ...

Thanks Wayne. I loaded the Chrome browser on hers and she can log in to her MSN email now. MSN homepage worked fine for her on all browsers but not the email.  I did a clean up, deleted browser history, checked for blocked sites and everything else but her computer would not log in with IE although she could log in using my computer with IE. Very strange. No restore to an earlier date would work on hers either so it seems peculiar to her computer (which is getting so slow I wish she would get a new one).

You also can add a start Button just like windows 7 by using star dock $5 dollars or Classic Shell which is free .

well what i've learned about the older computers is .. you can't load em up with ram cause they can only see about 3.2 gigs no matter what you do .. and thats at best .. i have an old vista machine that came with 2 sticks of 512mb of ram which gives you about a gig .. all it had was two slots so i put two 2 gig sticks in it .. it helped it a lot considerin how slow it was before .. but it was still slow as constipation .. but i'll say this much , with all the complaints i've heard about vista that old machine never gave me any problems .. i now have three other computers all with 7 .. 1 sony laptop that my girlfriend commandeered that i never get to use anymore but truth is i don't care for the laptop anyway .. and it was the macdaddy sony laptop you could get in its day .. its about 3 years old now tho so its not so much the macdaddy that it once was ..( ehh, neither am i now that i mention it )  but still not bad .. no crashes or anything .. yet .. and my girlfriend is a blonde so go figure huh ?? my other two are desktops both 7 .. one of em was a custom build that the guy put counterfeit windows on and thats the one i'm monkeyin around with now . took an old windows 7 from another laptop that went tits up and its workin now .. it was a real 15 round fight tho cause it didn't wanna go ..  its an amd 6 core processor and i have a solid state hard drive just for the operatin system with a 750 gig for the storage .. its pretty fast .. it makes my vista machine look like its standin still .. the other machin is an asus with an i7 quad core processor that i got about a year ago .. i had to really hunt for one that didn't have 8 .. i don't want 8 no way no how .. thats windows idea of gettin into the phone biz cause thats where all the action is nowadays... i put a hybrid drive in it and they're supposed to be the best of both worlds .. part solid state and part regular drive .. but thats the thing that died .. its supposed to be a faster machine than the amd 6 core but they're both pretty fast .. either one is good enough for me .. what i like about the asus is they have all these usb 3.0 on the front of the machine where you can get to them .. and card readers .. the other machine has a couple of 3.0 usb's but they're on the back so its a real bear to get to em .. another thing that i learned from all this monkeyin around is that my wireless keyboard and mouse by logitec was what was makin my computer not wanna shut down .. it would just keep commin back on .. couldn't figure out what the problem was . but after changin keyboards and mice all around it finally hit me ..with all the stuff i've done just to get one computer i could count on over the years i should probably just build the next one myself .. i don't really wanna do it tho .. but i probably could .. the only thing i haven't done is replace a motherboard ..

and shadow i'd give chrome a try for a browser .. i've tried firefox and while i liked it better than internet explorer i still think chrome is the best .. and it don't take up a lot of room .. and its fast .. and wayne is right about the start button on windows 8 .. i know its available now .. you just have to know where to go to download it .. i doubt you have it but some windows 8 machines had the option of settin it back to 7 if you wanted to .. microsoft might offer it too but it may come with a price .. 10 might be a good system but i'm gonna stick with 7 for as long as i can .. maybe by the time i'm in the market for a new machine cause i can't fix these anymore they'll have two versions of windows .. one version for home computers and one version for your phone .. as it is now they're tryin to mashup both platforms phones and desktops and make it work for both .. and it don't succeed at either ..

microsoft did offer 8 with a rollback option but it was only on one edition of 8. you can pick up a legal installable disc of 7 for as low as 75 bucks thru ebay or amazon, possibly even less thru another site like half.com but be careful you get a legal installable copy. microsoft has managed to alternate great os and poor ones thru the years . rule of thumb is every other version is good...so since xp was good....8 sucks but 10 should be good

for those in the market for machines....here's a page from fry's friday ad
