TBD

TBD on Ning

Since the demise of my local video store...which one could actually walk in and browse the shelves..look over some new releases and check out some oldies,  I have now been reduced to the services of Netflix (streaming ain't me) and the oddly placed "Redbox" and the equally oddly placed "Bluebox"!

So, for the price of $1.00 plus tax, I get to choose from the sorely limited selection located in the "box".

So, dear viewers, let's extend  a helping hand  to those of us who are willing to swipe that miracle card that allows us to view what's new.

On a scale of 1 to 10...rate what you've rented from the box.  10 being worth a whole dollar!

I've only read one of his books. Was a long time ago, and don't remember the title. Just remember it was a little off beat, and that I liked it.

'Justified' hs been my favorite program since the first season. Don't kid yourself.....there are some people portrayed there that actually do exist.

Violent????.......the world can be violent at times......anywhere.

Hey Bob, Don't misread me. I grew up in the part of the world that is portrayed in Justified. See "The Wild and Wonderful Whites of West Virginia". I spent a lot of time in the  bars and dance halls around San Angelo and El Paso, TX , Juarez &  Ciuda  Acuna , Mexico. One of the guys I grew up with is a retired DEA agent in Del Rio. I worked the swing shift in a 7 Eleven and lived in a rooming house in East Dallas in 1962. Spent 22 years in the Army. Some of it in Viet Nam and remote areas of Turkey. I've known more than my share of Violent people. But, these days I prefer to watch them on TV rather than know them in real life.

Tee, I have either read or listened to just about every book Elmo Lenard has written about dumb Criminals. His characters are usually pretty offbeat. He has a great sense of humor.  He was a prolific writer of Westerns before he started writing about criminals.  Carl Hassen and Dave Berry copy his writing style about the screwy population of south Florida. I reccomend anything any of the three write.

Google Lenard.

Will do Robbie. Got a Kindle for Christmas, and need to load it up!!!

Gotcha, Robbie. You have seen some rough places.

Watched Aliens and Cowboy's. Dee gave it a 6, I think it was a 5.

I think ratings depend a lot on expectations. Going in, based on previews, I thought it would be pretty cool, but for me, it never got off the ground,.

Stopped in the theatre again, saw a surprisingly good flick. I usually like Cameron Crowe films. "We bought a zoo", it was nicely done and i enjoyed it a lot, so if you've seen the previews and it looks lame, give it a try.  Matt Damon was great in it, so were the children. Beautiful animals too!

"Moneyball"

Gave it a 6...didn't fall asleep and beat 6 levels of 'birds' at the same time!  Win-win..:-)

"..zoo" is on the list.

Finished "Justified" The complete first season. Last night. It is pretty good. In a "Deadwood" kind of way.

Harlan Kentucky is a real place. Tucked down in the SouthEastern part of Kentucky. Between WV and VA.

Used to be a bigtime Coal mining area. Still is I guess, but automation has grossly reduced the requirement for the number of miners to extract and move the coal.  The Harlen, Pikeville, KY, Southern WV, and SouthWestern VA area has had a very high unemployment rate for the past 30 years. Meth and Pot are now the main areas of employment.  My dad was a Railway Mail Clerk assigned to a mail run from Ameagle, WV to Cabin Creek, WV from April 1945 to April 1950. We lived in Boone and Raleigh counties. The coal mines were booming and the WW II guys returned. There was rarely a month went by that there wasn't a murder, a shootout, or a fatal Beating in the area. And that was when times were good. Guess one of the best things that happened in my life was the demise of mail being transported by train and my dad being transferred to a more civilized area.

We rented "Cowboys & Aliens" and "Paul".  Both about extraterrestrials.

Cowboys -7

Paul - 6

"The Decendents"

Well done, abeit somewhat predictable.

Give it an 8!

"The Decendents"

I agree, an 8. I saw it in Dec. Thought it was very good, but not Academy Award level.
